Skinner's having one heck of a post-contract hangover. He's still young enough that I think he'll recover though.

Problem is we signed this deal basically knowing it was going to get ugly for the last few (2? 3? 4? years). The hope was that the first 4-5 years would make up for it. Unfortunately you can kick year #1 to the curb.

Step 1: give out mega contract based on Skinner's play with Jack.

Step 2: Watch and do nothing as your coach refuses to play Skinner with Jack.

The most mind blowing part of our entire season for me. I just don't get this at all. Skinner is a better partner Eichel then Reinhart is. Reinhart and Eichel do not play well together. Now Eichel inflates Reinharts numbers the year before his contract is up all the while Skinner already got his inflated contract and has 11 goals on the year...None of it makes sense.

At the very best, this season has been an instance of miscommunication between the coaching and management especially with the contract for Skinner.

Sam can play off basically anyone. I get the argument that he and Jack make each other better but you'd think it would be more worthwhile to see if he could get anything out of Johansson or any of the other misfits and hope Skinner/Jack can work well with someone else.

He might go down as a worse signing than Okposo.

Think if Botts gets the same luck as Murray and a severe injury hampers Skinner's goal scoring by even 15%?

Is Skinner re-inventing himself as a physical defensive presence? That cap hit needs him to be an elite producer. It's gonna be tough.

Good thing we lost out on the Brad richards sweepstakes.

Pegulas picked the wrong year to try to flex their cash in free agency

I know I know +/- isn't a great stat but wow, Skinner is the worst on the team (-18). Skinner/Mojo/Erod are by far the 3 worst on the team there.

If only Sam could drive his own line.

I love how we did this backwards. Should have kept him away from Eichel last year and kept the contract down. And then move him there this year and have him produce on par with his contract.
Instead we give him the best center he’s had in his career, in a contract year, can’t let him leave, and then move him away to create “depth”.

He’s being paid 9m to score and he’s not doing it, that’s pretty much the story this year.

Sure he might have good advanced numbers or whatever, but if he can’t score away from Eichel, the contract is going to look worse than Okposo’s does quickly.

Sabres' Jeff Skinner still creating chances in careerlong scoring drought

Skinner also ranks second on the Sabres behind Jack Eichel in even-strength individual scoring chances, according to NaturalStatTrick.com. However, Skinner has only 11 goals with eight assists in 46 games. His stat line through the first 46 games last season: 30 goals with 44 points. He is also a minus-19 this season, compared to a plus-12 at this point a year ago.
The difference is Skinner's career-low shooting percentage (7.6), a drastic difference from the career-high 14.9% he posted in 2018-19.

There's got to be a woman involved here lol

I’m really not seeing these scoring chances personally...and I am dumb enough to have watched most of the games.

Ditto...he's just been invisible for months. I don't remember him hitting any posts or just missing on great chances. There's been nothing.

Wasn't part of the justification for giving him that ridiculous contract the argument that he can produce with anyone?
Not anyone, but actual CENTERS...like Rask & Staal & Ryan...or Eichel and those 2 games with Larsson, not Wingers masquerading as centers or AHL fodder like ERod.

Fix the centers and fix Skinner.

Fix the centers and fix Skinner.

Or fix the root problem and get rid of the moronic General Manager who thought it was a good idea to play 2 consecutive seasons without enough centers.

Update: 0+3 in 21

I know it looks like I'm just ragging on him but this is an absurd slump at this point...

Don't think that the solution is to stick him with Eichel when the OER line looks so good.

I thing Krueger may have gone full Sanderson on Skinner.

I hoped Regier got Cassels at the 99 TDL instead of Juneau. I liked Juneau but Cassels and Sanderson would’ve been a legit scoring line for a team which struggled to score.

In that regard, I’d be willing to take a flyer on a lesser center who has chemistry with Skinner, like Rask.
