I knew we'd get nothing when the whole league knew Petry had to be traded before the season started (because he didn't want to be here and we didn't someone who didn't want to be here to be here).

So for Hoffman and Pitlick plus 2.5 million of our cap we got a back-up goalie, two AHL-er's, a late 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick? Not sure if this better than a bag of pucks. Maybe.

If Petry wasn't willing to play in Montreal then he would have had Montreal on his NTC. 'Petry didn't want to be here so the return is lowered' sounds like hogwash to me.

I'd have played him if that's the best we could get.

Hoffman had negative value and Pitlick was worth nothing. It’s basically 2.5M for a couple of mid picks.

They should have kept him then.
We had too many vets dmen. No need for half our defense to be vets. Lidstrom is still young. I liked the kid 2 years ago personally and thought he would progress as a good dman. It did not happen so far but he's 24 and dmen late bloom more often than forward.

All those worried about the loss of cap space over the next 2 years. What are we going to be spending that cap space on while we're rebuilding?

I get that it isn't desirable, but you can't just wish away the fact that Bergevin left us in such a huge hole that there would be unavoidable pain and seemingly "poor return" decisions made by Hughes.
He can't just snap his fingers and have all these terrible contracts/over the hill players disappear. It's going to take time...

He's about equal as a player to Kovacevic but a completely different style.. and a style they don't really need so.. yeah don't seem him as an every day guy.
Kovacevic's extra year makes him more desirable as the 7th D. He'd be more likely to be claimed on waivers. Having a cost controlled guy for league minimum in that role is nice. I think we must be trying to field a good Laval team. It wouldn't surprise me to see only Wideman waived of the non-exempt guys.

Kovacevic and Lindstrom as extras. I would hope we're not rotating the young guys again to get vets ice time. I'm sure an injury will happen within the first month so only one of Kovacevic and Lindstrom would be sitting.

feels like allen gets moved. he was really bad last year and has 2 years left. that would get them under the cap opening day so they can place Price on LTIR the first day and free's up 3.85 next year. what do you think its going to cost Mont to move him off the books.

Lindstrom is just a guy, they're not making this trade "for" Lindstrom. Value is just low presumably due to Petry's NTC limiting number of options.
Apparently the pick is conditional?
Condition is just later of Detroit/Boston 4th.

And hopefully neither Harris nor Xhekaj got to Laval.

funny TSN was saying days back that Petry was sought after and a contender would love to have him.

what a crock
I would think they would’ve been. But Petry only wanted Eastern teams. They also might’ve done him a solid sending him home. Yzerman is pretty stingy too. Doesn’t like to give up more than he’s willing and they aren’t contenders either.

what kind of Dman is Lindstrom?

I haven't seen a ton of him, but he's a very poised guy in his own zone. Always looks calm and careful and doesn't seem to get rattled with the puck on his stick.

Doesn't seem to have much in the way of offensive instincts, but is generally quite reliable and usually makes the safe play. He moves the puck pretty well, but there's no creativity in him at all, it's usually very safe and he plays a very predictable game.

I don't know much about his shot, but from what I've seen, there really isn't much of an offensive element to his game at all.
