Confirmed with Link: Jeff Petry (50% retained) traded to DET for Gustav Lindström and conditional 4th-round pick in 2025 (later of Detroit or Boston's pick)

Disappointing return, I don't really understand how there wasn't a better offer available for 2x2.4 on Petry given the crap RDs that got contracts as UFAs, but I guess that must just be the market right now. We probably have to assume that the no-trade list complicates things a lot.

Personally I would have rather they kept him and tried again at the deadline at this price, but I do also see how that might not be a realistic option with how everything went down last time around. Oh well, still have nothing to complain about in the aggregate.
How ever will the habs find 4.6m in cap space next season. PLEASE TELL ME!!
Inb4 the 2.4M in retention is made out to be a massive catastrophe from the same guy that wanted to buy Hoffman and Armia out a month ago.

I was hoping we’d get something for him. Sending him home to Detroit is good for Petry but I’d have liked a better return.

That being said, it’s still great overall as we dumped players we didn’t want and cleared cap space.
The retained part is unfortunate, but the real value is in getting cap compliant without tossing Price on LTIR and this trade clears up a decent chunk. Paper waives and a goalie dump would make it easy.

Lindstrom doesn't beat out our top 6 so this is pretty awful. Detroit were very close to us in goals against and most of our guys missed half the season. He wasn't even able to crack their lineup and had the second worst +/- after Chiarot.

I assumed there was no retention but you are all mentioning it.

Petry probably couldn't agree to come back here.

Don’t see much value in Lindstrom or a 4th, so meh. Overall the Habs still did very well on this series of trades though.

Good for Petry though, gets to go home and be part of a team on the upswing.

Thank you for your second stint in Montreal Jeff! :sarcasm:

I guess we can recycle the appreciation thread

Thanks for being a whiny no-show your last season and letting us get a real talent that wants to be here in Matheson.
