What is the fascination with Halpern by some here? Some of you guys act like he's a real difference maker on this team and he's not that good of a player--he used to be good but he's gotten old. He's not the only forward out there who can penalty kill or take face-offs. WTF!!??! I don't get it. The team is playing like **** so somebody walks the plank and if it continues then some others can walk the plank too. So ****ing what. We all should know who our top 6 forwards are--Nash, Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, Stepan and Hagelin. Not one other forward we have is really capable of stepping into one of those slots if one of those top 6 gets injured. Not one of our bottom line forwards has played well this year--and that's why Miller got rushed to the NHL. And in the meantime Richards has played like **** as well.
The Rangers did not score a lot last year either but they won a lot and one reason was they could roll 4 lines and get a decent forecheck even from the 4th line. That put other teams on their heels. This year both the 3rd and 4th lines are almost always missing--meaning there's no sustained momentum from one shift to the next and that it has to constantly be regained by those top two lines and frankly some of those top 6 guys are soft players.
Tell you what--this is a dog eat dog business--there's only so much room for sentiment when making personnel decisions. When a team is underachieving as much as this team is then hard decisions need to be made and truly Halpern is not that hard. I'm not liking this team very much right now and apart from Lundqvist, Callahan, Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Del Zotto, Stepan, Nash, Hagelin, the kids Miller and Kreider and maybe Stralman the rest will not be missed if they don't finish out this season with us.
