Can some math nerds (and I use that as a term of endearment) please tell me what Sweden needs to advance? What scenarios are still possible?
Well, they can get 5 points maximum if they beat the US in regulation.
1. If Canada wins against the US in regulation (brings them up to 5), or in OT (brings them up to 4) and then Canada beats Finland (brings them up to 7 or 8).
Then it would be:
-Canada 7 or 8
-Sweden 5
-USA 4 or 3
-Finland 3 or 2
2. If the US beats Canada in regulation, then loses to Sweden, they'd want either Canada or Finland to win in OT.
Then it would be:
-USA 6
-Sweden 5
-Canada 4 or 3
-Finland 4 or 3
3. Either a Canada or Finland win in regulation tomorrow would put them out regardless of what happens tonight as either team would have 5 points and they won the head-to-head match-ups.
4. If Sweden loses to the US in regulation or OT, or wins in OT, they'd be at 2, 3 or 4 points, which I don't think is enough to make the Final because one of Finland or Canada will also have a minimum of 4 points.
