What happens if another defenseman gets injured? Do we have to play with 5 defense the rest of the tournament? No injury replacement?

Not having Marner would have been a mistake.
Not having Hyman and Scheifele was a mistake; even if they win the tourny;
They basically have 2 checking lines. This may work in their favour against the US team, which is a heavy team but the skilled Swedes took control in p's 2 and 3.

Hyman on the team would have been a mistake. We saw that with Chris Kunitz. It is a waste of a roster spot when a player is more or less a leech to a star player. Hyman on his own doesn't make this team. He's come down to earth and is more like that 40-50 point guy we always knew he was. Scheifele is the one guy who seems like he should have been there and that it could cost us. We'll see.

Yeah, those numbers don't make any sense. Money puck must be using a different definition for high danger shot attempts.

Regardless, Bedard's expected goal numbers are brutal, and by eye test its very clear how poor he is defensively. Dude has a negative rel xG% playing on one of the worst teams in the league.

I am totally fine with Bedard not being on the team. Simply put, he is 19 years old and he is in a bit of a sophomore slump. Still putting up some points, but to play in a tournament of this level with grown men like this, he needs at least another year before getting a look. Maybe a strong showing at the Worlds this year for him puts him on the Olympic team. I don't know. But he does need a bit of work. Celebrini too. It is always nice to have the youth on your team but you have to make sure you aren't sacrificing experience either. It has to have a balance. Bedard isn't ready for this tournament. Not yet, not this year at least.

Not surprising, people on Twitter posting Tanev was hilarious. In what world is Tanev making this roster over so many other better players.

But, Toronto fans being Toronto fans need to spam their guy without using their brain.
Young D-Man. Love to get him into a game - but I doubt that happens.

I'm a Leaf fan, and I wouldn't put Tanev on this team at gunpoint. I am still a fan of Bouchard on this team simply because you can never have too much firepower on the back end and from what I saw last night Canada does have more checkers/grinders than you'd possibly like and more skill on the back end might help get that puck up the ice more.

But I will agree he isn't on this team. He's the PK Subban of 2014/'16. They just simply don't think he's worth the risk

I like how much of a calming influence Sid was out there - he always looks like he's in control.

Beating Sweden was huge - even in O.T.. As long as we win one of the next 2 games (in regulation), we're pretty much in the finals with one exception. And, as always, a little adversity is NEVER a bad thing.

The only way we don't make the finals is Finland goes pointless and :

Sweden beats Finland and the U.S. in regulation.
The U.S. beats Canada and Finland in regulation.

Tanev is a warrior and excellent defensively. As an American I'm glad he's not on the team.

Me and Joe played on the same team growing up in ST LOUIS MISSOURI, I’ll have to inform him of his newfound Canadian citizenship😂

Ah, my bad!

Honest mistake: I copied + pasted the full top 10 list from the stats site, which had Jake Allen in Woll's spot before I changed the stat filter to include only goalies playing 38+ games. Allen was then dropped as he hasn't played enough and Woll was bumped up - I just didn't double-check before posting.

But hey, I'd be all for it if he wants to switch citizenship. Certainly would help our woeful goalie situation up here.

I see your point about Hyman but he has 19 goals, knows where to be for McDavid and it is a short tourney. Olympics no way but a 3 game tourney simply to leech off McDavid would have been ok.

Scheiffle is having a great year and no clue what they have against him. Oh well

Canada will have to be good, but both Finland and the USA are teams they can beat. Finland will present some challenges with the heaviness for Canada defending below the dots, and Cooper will have to set a matchup against who he wants playing Matthews and Hughes, but I think Canada’s first period against Sweden looked better than either of these teams so far

Yup. Exactly what I said.

Hard to have a conversation with someone so disingenuous.
I don't know what you thought you were accomplishing by bringing up Crosby. Bedard's very obviously not on his level.

When asked to defend at the WC he was benched. He's very very not good defensively. Watch a game.

I didn’t have Bedard on this team either, but to be fair to him, he started on the fourth line in that tournament, played well, was not moved up from the fourth line, and was made 13th forward even though players like Dubois, Bunting, and McBain were equally as bad defensively without bringing anywhere near the chance création that Bedard did, Tourigny seemed to be playing his favourites

I recall him playing in the top 6 in the first few games and then getting demoted.

In his first game, he got 15:32, only 1 min less than Hagel who led all forwards in ice time.

In his second game, he got 14:54, 30 seconds less than the top forward. Then he got 16 mins in his third game.

These are the ice times for games. He very clearly started in the top 6 and was then demoted

15:32
14:54
16:00
14:30
13:19
10:14
8:08
12:00
13:08
10:13

I know Weegar has been battling through a foot injury (he has played every game still for the Flames), but my f*** is he getting bent over by muppet-ass Canadian management.
