Now he's gone.
As much as it’s hard for many to understand US college hockey is King in Northeast US & Minny. Even in Boston, BU / BC / Northeastern are almost as popular as Bruins. Ratings are stronger than most NHL teams

Also it’s a promotion, Houle runs the Clarkson program now, that means GM (recruiting) and coaching duties

Sorry my point wasn’t clear. I was trying to say look at non French speaking candidates as well in the US or CHL system. There’s just so much more of a bigger pool to draw from than limiting yourself all the time

Anyways, it will never change, i just hope the francophone they choose brings modern fresh ideas and ways of doing things

There are multiple reasons why this proud franchise hasn’t won a Stanley Cup in over 30 years . You have hit on one of the more uncomfortable ones.

A lot of talk about Sylvain Favreau but don’t rule out Stephane Julien and Carl Mallette

Julien have a connection with Robidas and the Habs staff saw the work he did with Joshua Roy

And I can confirm that the Habs staff likes Mallette and he’s 100 % the type of coach they like
Can you give a coaching scouting report on him?

Anyway, it's pretty much anybody but Vincent. Please.

Favreau, Robitaille, Julien, Mallette....all fine names. Maybe have 2 of them in there, one as coach, the other as assistants.

Going to the NCAA is a definitive step in the wrong direction for a coach with NHL aspirations......he must really have some real strong ties there.
He's not stupid. I don't see him having any NHL aspirations right now. He chose the stability. Not everybody wants to have the pleasure to be on the spot and be fired every 4 years.....Glen Constantin do it with the Rouge et Or in football, Berenson did it with Michigan etc.

Frankly, it's a fine job to have. And he does it in his alma mater. Strangely he's replacing a guy that was in Clarkson for 13 years before he, also, was offered the job in HIS alma mater 1 week ago.

Man that's surely a big loss for the habs/rocket.

The winner here is Mesar. Going to get a fresh look as I don't think Houle liked him at all. Hopefully he runs with the opportunity

I'm pretty sure no one has liked Mesar in the last 2 seasons, not even his coaches in junior.

needing to speak french to work an important gig in Quebec is about as political as needing to speak mandarin to work in china.
except that all the players from all-over (everywhere) speak English. RDS has French anouncers (all of whom speak English), even the Journal Media speak English - the press can EASILY ask questions in English and simply translate for their written article(s), why do you need a coach to speak French? for whom exactly?
The entire Quebec media can handle the translation themselves afaic.. I would venture a guess and say 90% of anyone watching hockey (press conferences) inside Quebec already speak English. a "simple" Translator can be added for the remaining 10% who need to hear the so-called important news Live from the coach/GM...
Never seems to be any issues when the French Press speak to the Players (ever), don;t know why it has to be any different for management.

There's a rule against getting political around here and honestly it's for things like this. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Absolutely. No idea. End of story. No idea. You may be a great guy. I'm sure you are. But here you are just wrong. And I respect a lot the other posters around here too, but many of you are also having very cringe opinions about all this.

There's plenty of great french-speaking coaches available who could all justify a chance at coaching in the pro. This won't be a challenge or a problem.
