All these coaches come from the same mold because they were all trained the same way, learn from the same influencers, and have the same mentality. Not bad coaches per se, but not what we need to progress.

Houle spent last year without a contract extension and then took over a month to re-sign after Laval's season ended. Most likely he was hoping to move up and get a NHL assistant job and when that didn't happen he probably realized he doesn't have a future in the NHL and just took Laval's job.

After that happened a great opportunity arose at a place he was assistant coach for like 10 years and played 4 years of hockey at, for him it was a no brainer to move on to a less stressful job with a lot more security.

I wasn't a big fan or detractor of Houle's so it's kind of meh news to me. A little weird how it all played out but that's life, circumstances can change in an instant. It's not the first or last time this type of thing will go down and so long as everybody was professional then no hard feelings.

My instinct is Hughes is going to go for an off the board pick for the next coach because I think he cares more about having a development coach then a career coach. Maybe Plekanec fresh off his gold medal as assistant coach.

Also, will the new guy want to replace the two assistants that were resigned along Houle? I guess there is still one assistants slot left open so, the Habs should advertise the job as "can bring one friend".

It's already been determined that in Montreal OR ELSEWHERE.....the best is never being chosen. NOBODY ever leave no stone unturned. It's a myth.

Anyway, if people think it's tough to determine BPA vs needs at draft day, imagine how hard it is to get THE BEST coach possible...

Vachon is bringing up Alex Tanguay as an option. He was an assistant coach with the Iowa Wild and has been an assistant coach in the NHL with the Detroit the last 3 years. He was also an assistant coach at the Worlds last year for Canada.
