His first NHL step was solid. I mentioned earlier in one of the ahl threads that I got to see him live and he looked much better than what many here were discussing. He has the body & mind to take hits and make a play, he has mobility to get puck out of trouble, and has some offensive tools. Why some are predicting a ceiling of a bottom pairing D leads me to believe they have not seen him play. Is he a sure top 4 D, maybe no, but he definitely has the tools. Just needs some time to develop, I believe we have a gem, but i am no scout. Our future D looks good. Struble seems to be entering the picture with authority :) GHG!

I liked his game yesterday but it will be a long shot with all the LD's ahead of him. Even Jackeye might have trouble sticking once Hutson signs. Matheson and Guhle aren't going to be a staple on the left side for the next 5 years at least.

HuGo is going to have some serious trade capital in a couple of years.
I am assuming you meant they are going to be a staple?
Guhle will be a staple and is already our best defender.
Matheson however will have competition and it has nothing to do with Struble.

I see good bottom D potential, for sure. I would trade Harris over anyone 100%.

Habs need D like Xhekaj and Struble in their system, good passing ability and being physical, it's a huge piece to have in a defensive group!
You don't want too many that are same.

i've seen a ton of him and I never saw much offensive upside, so often he would skate the puck up ice, make a nice move and all yet 90% of the time it would lead to nothing. He badly struggled to score goals with the goalie in net or not facing shots from the red line.

I always thought he could be an NHLer cause he plays a power game and is a bit like Romanov who was a fan favorite, so it was just a question of how much offense can he provide, as you have to be able to put up some points here and there in the NHL.

Bare in mind that the sample size is one game in the NHL, but I think he might develop into a better option than Harris. Skating is about equal, but he has a pronounced edge on physicality and can probably fill a PK role. Although I agree that he is not a point producer, neither is Harris. Struble might not carry the puck as well as Harris but he made quick decisions and good passes.

That being said, the there is so much depth on D. He still needs to beat out Jackeye to think of becoming a regular on the top 6.

I admit I have not seen much. From what I've seen though, he looks to have more potential than a #5-6 D. Will he reach it? Nobody knows. I definitely won't complain if he becomes a Chariot/Romanov type D as you suggest.

Just my opinion, but he is a more complete player than Jackeye! Arber is a better fighter, more ferocious!

He has the physical strength that Harris will never have, so it's power game vs high IQ/poise. Harris needs to step up his offensive game, the little i've seen from him this year was disappointing but many prospects/young players struggle in their 2nd full pro season. He will either continue to progress or he won't.

Struble has shown good progress on the defensive side of things, and he always had the physical game/tools. If he can develop his offensive game more then that's just going to be that much better for us.

The good thing is we have a ton of young/prospect blueliners so they can take their time and figure out who to keep long term and who they may need to move at some point.

If he can improve his offensive game then yes he could be more then a 5th or 6th. I don't think he would be that far off from Romanov, but some more time in the AHL wouldn't hurt either as there will be a long jam once all the D are healthy.

Arber also possesses a much better shot.
Arber does have more power to his shot, however Struble is no slouch in that respect. Great bottom pairing projection, maybe more!!

Puck Authority (back in July 2020) had this to say:
As well as putting power and accuracy into his shot, he has a knack of getting shots on net. Many times, defenders fall victim to shooting for the sake of shooting and get their shots blocked. Struble seems to find shooting lanes with laser accuracy for the purpose of creating rebounds for his teammates.

Dobber Prospects in May 2021:
Great shot and natural instincts means the offensive side of his game has room to grow

Romanov type trade I was thinking. Get a Dach. Wifi should be worth Romanov. At the draft not now.
I don't think Xhekaj has Romanov trade value, as Romanov had back to back World Junior tournaments where he was elite against his peers. But I like the thinking of maximizing trade value of the D. We'll inevitably have to trade like 4 to 6 dmen...
