If you ask many Hab fans about Struble's value..some will say he's a B or C prospect (nostly due to his injuries and not playing a lot). And, some like myself will still say he is an A or A- or B+ prospect...it's all about staying healthy and progressing for Struble. He has what it takes to be a solid NHL dman (imo)..just needs some more patience from management (and some Hab fans).

I don't want Struble to be in a package a la Poehling (Petry+Poehling for Matheson). Give some time to Struble and it may pay off.

We might REALLY regret it...packaging Struble to complete an ok or average trade.

Jordan Harris would like to see Struble play some Hab games at the end of the season (so do I!). Will it happen? I hope so!

Imo, Struble is more than a B prospect..we just have to be patient.
(It may just pay off).

A very fair statement. Struble may not be racking up the points but he does have those attributes you look for in a d man. Size, skating, Strength and it stands up well for when he turns pro.

I understand your POV but at the same time, we already have Guhle that will play on our 1st or 2nd pairing, we have xhekaj that should be our 3rd pairing D…. Then we have Harris, Hutson, Engstrom and then we have Matheson until the 25-26 season…. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they use Strubble as a trade chips to get stronger in other positions

Or they confirm Struble is decent and then use Harris as a chip, who should fetch more at this time.

Maybe, wouldve make sense. Personally i’ve been ok with trading Harris since the start of the season, I think he’s the most expendable LH D in the team rn beside Edmundson, with every LH D in the pipeline & the one already on the team and our weaknesse at RH D. Time will tell

Size, skating, strength, and tough/rugged/gritty (bodes well for the tougher/grittier playoffs...and will protect our goalies/forwards:

Xhekaj and Struble...really want to see these two as part of our future d-core for a long time (Struble just has to find a way to stay healthy and Hab fans will like his toughness/skating, imo...I'm hoping! and predicting/wishing/hoping Struble gets 5-10 games at the end of the season...like with harris last season...a cup of tea...a little taste of the NHL will do Struble some good, imo...he will be hungry for more and hopefully will find a way to stay....healthy).

The more the merrier!! (Have to make room for the best..question is..who are the best ones? still too early to tell!).

But, if I had to guess a bit (who the best young ones are)..I'd go with a Habs' dcore that has Guhle, Xhekaj, Hutson, Barron, and Struble in it. Harris may stay...or he may be trade bait (Struble may have more potential as a playoff warrior, imo ; but maybe Harris will just keep getting better and better, but may never have that grit/toughness that Struble has...and that toughness is really needed in playoffs). Matheson..maybe he'll stay with our Habs until 2025-2026 (or even further?)...or maybe he'll go to a contender or playoff team within the next two seasons...for a 1st+2nd or a 2nd+very good prospect. As usual...time will tell. Imo, the Habs GM will try to go younger and younger (for at least another two seasons..more or less..imo/guess-timating!). And..Hutson may be 2-3 yrs away (more or less). Struble may be 1-2 yrs away (or less).

Will be interesting to see where Struble is at next fall in camp...

Did this guy get drafted young? I feel I’ve been hearing about this stud D coming up forever…

I never had high Hope's for him, but always thought there could be raw potential that could be refined with time. We'll see if he can finally stay healthy and what the development team can do with him over the next 3 years. Evan's made it to the NHL at 25. Maybe Struble is the next Kovacevic, or better, at 25...

At one point, during their junior career, those Stay-at-home defensemen were racking point or had a really good +\-. (Just look at Xhekaj). Struble have none of that. The way he is trending, he is gonna have many donuts in the NHL, so I hope is defensive play is A1, cause he will need it.

We already have Matheson, Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj and Hutson way in front of him we should just trade is right at the deadline along with who ever we are trying to move to try and improve return.

Drafted when he was still 17. Was one of the youngest player in the draft born on September 8.

Drafted at 18, played in the NCAA immediately, been there 4 years.

Honestly, he'll get an ELC but he's not really close to our top defense prospects at this point.

That would be poor asset management. Struble already said he wanted to sign with the Habs. So sign him, let him compete for a spot, worst case send him in Laval for a year. Better to trade a player after he showed his real value like Romanov. Imagine if Bergevin would have traded Romanov just before he came to the NHL. No way he gets a 13th overall pick for him. The Habs finally have depth on defense with young players. Let them mature and trade later on.

Yes or he could also prove that he isn’t worth anything… Romanov was top D at WJC playing in the KHL on the best team… Struble hasn’t shown much dominance and is a long shot to be a dominant NHL player. I rather save the contract spot for someone with better upside or a position with less prospect depth.

That's the job of hockey ops to evaluate him and to do a projection. Hughes knows Struble very well since he plays with his sons at Norteastern. Forget the offensive stats. You need defensive Ds. and some will develop some offense later in their career. Petry and Chiarot were good examples of that late blooming offense. By the way, up to now Romanov showed little offense at the NHL level and he was worth a 13th overall pick. That being said Romanov is on pace to double his point total this year.

If he has value I'm not against that. But if he doesn't, a lot can happen between now and 3 years from now with injuries, salary demands, etc..

I'm not sure his value is at it's highest now though, even if the plan is to eventually move him. If he shows that he'll be a solid top 4 dman (say Savard/Chiarot/Edmundson mold) over the next few years, why move him now?

Hughes was Struble's advisor (aka not-a-paid-agent) right until he accepted the Habs GM job. He knows him since he's like 12 years old.

With the amount of picks we have contract slot will be pretty valuable, I don’t see top 4 upside, he will be on waiver before he ever prove he is able to play in the NHL or raise is value. If he has any value package him along with a Monahan or Edmundson to bring better return.

I'm not worried about waivers with him, because he's turning pro so late. He'll only be waiver eligible in 3 years I think, when he's 24 or 25... He has plenty of time to develop before he's waiver eligible.

At any rate, he's not a big prospect on my radar, just an asset that we have that may turn into something or may not.

+100000 totally agree....we need Struble here. Let him play with our Habs/Laval (half-half and see how he does in both Leagues).

I can see teams like Bos and Philly loving a tough fast-skating dman like Struble...I'd prefer keeping Struble with our Habs...vs...playing against him (if he gets on a roll and stays healthy...watch out, imo/gut-feeling).

Really really hoping Struble gets 5-10-15 games at the end of this season...it'll (imo) pump him up/motivate him more for Spring/Summer training..to be more focused/ready for Laval or Habs next season).

<Guhle
<Barron
<Xhekaj
<Struble (maybe needs 1-2 years or less.. 3/4 AHL..1/4 Habs)
<Matheson (will he be here in 1-2-3 yrs? maybe?)
<Savard (will he be here in 1-2-3 years? maybe?)
<Edmundson (might be traded before the 2023 deadline?)
<Kovacevic (maybe he will be here for 2-3 more years+...?)
<Hutson (huge fan, but needs 2 more years...more or less)
<Harris?? (can he be gritty/tough enough for playoffs?)
<Mailloux? (offense is there, but needs to work on defence)

Struble probably better off signing as UFA. Habs have quite a bit of depth on D ahead of him. Bottom pairing is where I see his ceiling.

Could be useful on a low cap hit in 2 to 3 years when he's ready to make the jump from the AHL to the NHL. Evan's made the jump to the NHL at 25 and was good for us in the Winnipeg series before the Scheifle incident.
