In 3 NCAA seasons he has not shown a whole lot in my estimation.
Not a prospect I expect to make it in the pro ranks but would be ecstatic to be wrong.
Struble fan here...hoping he stays healthy to show what he's really made of. (I believe he should be in our top 10 for best prospects, imo).

His speed and toughness/grit can help our d-core not be a pushover. After all...you've got to protect our Caufields and Hutsons. Struble can do that and hopefully (one day) give the Habs' d-core quality 15-18min+ per game. He just has to stay healthy (*fingers crossed*). I'm also hoping he can mix toughness/grit with discipline (and simplify things defensively).

Sounds like you have never seen him play... Struble owns the ice and can pretty much do everything when he's healthy. Big, fast, talented and one mean SOB. Really hope he takes it to the next level this year.
I would be very happy if you're right about this.

If this guy can stay healthy I have no doubt he will play in the NHL. The stay healthy part is a big "if" though, he hasn't been able to in NCAA and usually groin issues don't improve with age.

Still have high hopes for him. People have given up, but I see him like a Mailloux, a guy with the tools to be a future top pairing D.

Question is: does he want to sign with the Habs?

Honestly, our prospect pool is so deep, it's not much of a concern to me.

Sure he's a great propect, but ....

Guhle - Barron
Harris - Mailloux
Xhekaj - Norlinder
Hutson
Engstrom
Fairbrother
Trudeau
Nurmi
Kostenko
Turigny
etc...

plus 5 1st round picks over the next 3 years and more vets will be moved for more picks and prospects...

waiting to hear who he gets paired up with, could see them going with a Struble Bucheler pairing as they are big and tough and that way Struble could focus more on his offensive game as he needs a breakout year imo.

also a minor note, both the GM's sons will be back at NU but MLS's son has left the team and will play in the USHL this year with his younger brother so I would expect MSL to get to see some USHL games for sure this year.

How’s his decision making on the ice?

How’s his decision making on the ice?
"montreal" always know way more about prospects (I get lots of my info on our Hab prospects from reading posts by "montreal" and some Hab fans who know this/that about Struble). And, according to "montreal" Struble needs to improve his decision-making.

From the little I know about Struble...I really really like his skating/speed, size/toughness, crafty offensive flair (good potential), and mean-streak (imo, Struble could be a dman who will be there for our Caufields, Suzukis, Hutsons and Dachs if some opponents try to give Dach some dirty hits, etc).

We shouldn't expect Xhejac to do all our protecting...Struble to the rescue.
Again, from the little I know about Struble...love his UPside....just has to stay healthy.

Really hoping he can be among our Habs d-core by the end of this season (5-10 games...like with Harris last season)...or next season for sure. Just has to find a way to stay healthy...for crying out loud!!

Go Struble Go!! (please be a Hab in the near future!).

Our Habs' future D-core looking bright!!:

Guhle-Mailloux
Hutson-Barron
Xhejac/Struble-Harris

As usual...thanks for info.

Really hoping for a great/healthy season for our Jay Struble.
And, would love to see Struble get 5-10 games with our Habs (at the end of the season)...just like Harris got some games last season...at the end of it.

This is the same board that gave up on McDonagh solely based on offensive numbers......I am not saying Struble is another McDonagh but I am saying that the collective opinion of this board is meaningless even if they run into the truth by accident sometimes.

I still like him alot but he will need to stay healthy at some point. I am not sure that top pairing is a reasonable projection but I like him more than Harris, Norlinder, Fairbrother etc. I do like Harris but his lack of size may not be ideal especially if Struble, Hutson, Barron and Mailloux start to push for a roster spot in the next 1-3 years. I know Harris is a LHD but I think his best chance to stick will be on the right side which is where the latter two names come into play.

I definitely covet the idea of having a lineup of big, mobile, skilled defenders where we can maybe sneak a PP specialist like Hutson on to the bottom pairing where he will be insulated by a big, mobile partner.

I haven't gotten around to his games yet, but based off last season I'd say he's not ready for 5-10 NHL games. Think of it this way, Harris was one of the top U-20 blueliners in the NCAA and then one of the top blueliners in the NCAA. Struble is no where close to that.

Struble is only 4 months older than Guhle, even though he was picked a year earlier. This year will be telling. He will have a prominent role.

I think the guys has been past over by min of Guhle, Xhekaj and we have Matheson… the guy has not been able to stay healthy since he was drafted, he isn’t that special a 6´200lbs, and he isn’t sign yet… I keep who ever is better between him and Harris and I’m leaning toward Harris right now. I would trade Struble right to sweeten the deal and improve return on some of these UFA we are trying to deal at the TDL. Or else just let is right expire and collect the compensation pick ( I think if he sign with another team we would get a 2nd, like Chicago got for Hayes)…

Compensation is only for unsigned first round picks.

They are going to sign him at the end of this year. Hughes isn't in the business of burning young assets. Cam Hillis' ELC ends this year so it's a pretty easy swap.
If we are looking at contracts that may not be back or converted to AHL deals:

Pretty sure (11):
Drouin
Byron
Monahan
Dadonov
Schueneman
Bowey
Leskinen
Richard
Stephens
Belzile
Hillis

Maybe (2):
Condotta
Teasdale

Plus we only have 47 contracts now.

With 16 spots, we might need 8 for new prospects, but there is PLENTY of room for Struble if he has a good year.

We know Dichow is going back to Sweden for one more year at least.
Dobes might sign.
Farrell will.
Struble has to or we lose his rights.
I can't think of many others we would/have to sign this year. Maybe Biondi?

So yeah no worries at all for contract slots.

Probable:
Mailloux, Kidney, Roy, Farrell,

Maybe:
Hutson, Dobes, Trudeau, Pitlick, Struble

Nine at most, probably less. Way under 16.

Mailloux, Kidney and Roy signed their ELCs already, so they should count toward the contract limit.

Farrell is coming at the end of the year unless he doesn't want to play here.

Dobes is a maybe, I'd sign him if he dominates again this year behind OSU.

Hutson will spend another season in the NCAA at minimum.

Trudeau looks like a good bet to at least get an AHL deal this year.

Think Pitlick won't be signed unless they do the Stapley.

Struble has to be signed.

Then you'd expect our 2 x 2023 1st rounders to be signed post draft.
