I enjoyed watching him play.22P in 68GP in his NHL career thus far, over a PPG in his final AHL season, over 100P in his final WHL season.
Should have been re-signed. Not a huge loss, but he's a guy who could develop into a nice bottom 6 forward.

I would have signed him over some Beaudin, Peca, etc..

Pretty good defensively and was quite physical.
I'm still pretty confused as to why we didn't keep him, but kept Peca and now Beaudin.
We have way better 4th line options.22P in 68GP in his NHL career thus far, over a PPG in his final AHL season, over 100P in his final WHL season.

And Hawryluk is 4YRs younger. Only one year older than guys like Chabot, White and Chlapik, who obviously aren't finished products yet.
Why even bother claiming him in the first place if you're not going to re-sign the guy for about league minimum after he puts up 7P/11GP?
If you think Hawryluk and Austin Watson are equivalent players then you need to reread "Hockey 101".
I can't come up with a reasonable answer to that.
I mean what was the end game there? What did he NOT do to earn a spot? Like I said earlier, I doubt it ends up being a big deal but this management team just makes confusing move after confusing move with seemingly no plan in place.
Weird stuff.
Not a bad player. We just have an overwhelming glut of similar players.
Also, to those bringing up Watson, those are completely different players filling completely different roles.
Are we seriously comparing Watson and Hawryluk? Watson is a very good PKer, almost half a foot taller, and has consistently handled heavy defensive deployment to a level that very few in the league have managed. Watson PKs a ton and does a good job at it. Hawryluk doesnt. Watson starts in the DZone a ton. Hawryluk doesnt. I'd have been totally fine with us bringing back Hawryluk, but by no means is he comparable to Watson.
