Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

Lol.

Now imagine Macho Man's "cream of the crop" promo being spoken .

This Kris guy seems like a proto-players coach. Hopefully we see success for him and our team here. Dumbass decision, but can't blame the new coach for taking a once in a lifetime opportunity.
In the AHL, he constantly brought in players to his office to just chit chat all year. Whether it was hockey or something else

What do you mean what am I talking about?

There seems to be two diffent parties in the org? We literally though this was Holland's show until couple days and now its Jeff Jackson show. That screams healthy org? They are literally giving different answers on the same f***ing podium LOL.

I am not mad at the exact moves. If this guys a good hire so be it. But it seems very toxic the way Holland is being edged out, how Coffey is a guy who keeps tabs on coaches/gms for Katz. Just all very messy and not good for a contending team with McDrai in their prime.
It's been definitively "The Jeff Jackson Show" from two weeks into the job when he fired Holland's long-time head amateur scout. And when he added a management support guy to build up an analytics department. People haven't been paying attention if they haven't see the obvious actions - all stated in Jackson's introductory media conference.

My takeaway from the Woody Fired media conference is that Jackson and Holland are communicating regularly and in depth about how to fix this Twilight Zone season. Holland has experience that is still valuable including relationships with other GM to facilitate prospective deal making and in his interactions with team coaching and players. But the new Sheriff is firmly the decision maker in short-term panic time and with a long-term organizational view which he is beginning to put in place. Next off-season will be the big one with a new GM ... likely a newer face who is analytic-friendly and better able to navigate a modern cap world.

2 years? It's already happened. McDavid will join the Hall/Gagner club of "They couldn't pull this team's ass out of the fire so they suck" club.
I'm telling you. Once these two are gone, we will eventually build a good d and have a good goalie lol. Then we will be searching for that top elite talent.

I don't care what Marek says as well (from another post)

This team cost Woody his job with this garbage start, barring that idiot Holland. The goalies, the dmen, and forwards did not get the job done and put themselves ina giant hole.

It's already happening on social media. And then the same fans will complain about why no one wants to play in Edmonton.
Surely it couldn't be the utterly incompetent brass that has consistently failed year after year, no....

The problem is the Oilers can't draft for shit. They consistently fail at drafting outside the top 10 (and even in the top 10 they're average), which means they have to scour free agency and trade markets for players but they have to overpay them because that's how it always works with this team... And whenever we do happen into good players we turn our backs on them and fall in love with crappy depth players that wouldn't make any other team.

Unless ownership blows it up, McDavid and Draisatl are the only prayer this club has of ever winning it all. Once they're gone it could be more than a decade before the team recovers.

It is bizarre but yet it fits with what we have seen from Katz ...back in 2008 when he bought the team for example.
His history as owner revealed that he is fully capable of running a circus organization and yesterdays press conference (now that I have watched it) confirmed that.
So many absolutely bizarre and awkward elements in that press conference.
Its actually quite hilarious.

Who is the decision maker in this organization?

As Brentashton said...this whole thing is beyond ridiculous.
Nothing should surprise people. This organization has a lengthy history of bad decision making and earn all the skepticism they get. Where I sit, it's pretty clear that Jeff Jackson is running the show; Kenny is a figurehead with some intrinsic value before he goes out the door when his deal ends.

I've spent enough energy on this. Time to see if this high wire decision pays off or not.

...and Coffey is on Knoblachs coaching staff even though he said that he doesnt want to coach.
So a man who doesnt want to coach is on the bench and has a direct kine to Katz.

How can Knoblauch not be thrilled about that...LOL

So dysfunctional. :shakehead

Listening to the Oilstream and they are talking about a texter saying Leon will leave for sure. He could, but these guys will have a hard time finding another team (with cap space) who do the things Katz does. People sh** on Katz, bit at least he tries to give players anything they need. LA comes to mind that would do this stuff.

Did not know Katz has some ownership in an aviation company. Guessing this goes way back when he flew Team Canada to Vancouver.

Sounds like players make use of his private jet
Lol a texter. A fat guy in his moms basement no doubt

Yes fans need to calm the **** down. We don’t control the team and we don’t know what happens behind closed doors. Connor even admitted this morning that he had nothing to do with this decision and he also alluded to all the idiots blaming him for the current situation. Let’s not run out best player outa town because of rumors and conjecture please.

Man I was hoping Jackson would just be the president and not try to be GM too. Whether Holland is a figurehead or not, JJ should have brought in a young GM candidate to do basicslly what Jackson is doing.

I was making posts defending Woody after the Seattle game, kinda felt like we were turning the corner (aside from McDrai). Step 1 was a goalie, very obviously.

Anyway despite wanting Woodcroft to stick around, that’s not reality. KK could be a good coach, I damn well hope so. He’s in a tough position, so I just hope the best for him and the team. The team needs to put their feelings aside and do their best for Knob, it’s all you can do in this situation.

Once these two are gone we’ll be so far in the basement nobody will know we exist.

But I do hope the focus of the next rebuild is D and G first. You’ll still get stomped for a season or two with a young core of dmen, like Chicago did years ago. Then you draft your forwards.

I do have to say though, we couldn’t even really do this through the draft previously because there weren’t usually top tier dmen when we were picking really high in the draft. We didn’t pick high when Makar was there, Hughes went ahead of Bouchard, we didn’t draft high when Ekblad was there, we missed Hedman and Doughty before that. I guess we could have drafted Murray but that wouldn’t have worked.

How could he have been surprised about Woody's firing when Holland said that he talked to him?
You do know that Holland could have talked to the group about Woody, etc and then Jeff made the move.

You guys are all saying Jeff is icing Holland out. Which one is it? Are they working together or did Holland do his due diligence, talk to the boys, and Jackson decided he is making the move right now, regardless of Holland even saying positive things?

Some of you want this to be just one way so badly.

Holland could have went to Jeff and said "Conor and co say they like Woody and have not quit on him"

Jeff could have said "Ok that is fine and dandy, but I want my guy in right now, sorry"

Why is it so matter of fact to so many people? None of us know. It still could have been a surprise yesterday morning to the players. Maybe they thought Woody was staying, but they were looking at Kris too

There is no way for anyone to know what the hell is going on. Thats the point.

We have a coach (who had one of the best records ever) being fired....we have a new coach being brought in (that is clearly Jacksons man) and being supplied with an assistant coach that doesnt even want to coach but has a direct line to the owner.

We have a GM who isnt really in charge but wants to appear to the fans and media to think that he is in charge and his rendition of how things played out behind the scenes is different from his boss.

So much incongruity.

This is a circus.
