Beyond ridiculous.

I actually thought moving away from Nicholson to Jackson signalled the end of the OBC Era with the Oilers.

Little did I expect that they simply changed the rules that you no longer have to be retired to be a carded member of the OBC. Conner definitely has the membership card and Jackson now, it seems, may just be another hire in the long running episode.

And having the SA to the Owner (another OBC emeritus) sitting in the coaches room and on the bench for games? f*** me silly.

i’d love to be proven wrong, but I’ve seen this movie play out before here in Oil Country. Too many times.
I hear you.

This organization just upped the ante on the level of clownery they are willing to go to.
Its so crazy that it just might work!

This happens with every new coach here, lol. When they first come in "the way they talk is a breath of fresh air!".

Lets see if he can coach any defensive structure and accountability out of this g

I don’t think they had a choice. He’s not leaving an organization for another one without a guarantee. But it is weird to have a coach under contract when a new GM will be here next year. But Jackson is probably still calling the shots going forward anyway.
There will probably be a new GM next season but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Katz extending Holland's contract...stay tuned, the soap opera called the Oilers has a few chapters left to go. It might be more entertaining than what's happening on the ice.

Katz forcing Coffey to do some work instead of just chilling at the top of the org was maybe the most impressive decision I've seen Katz make as owner since he took over 15 years ago. Could still not actually be a good idea, but still, putting some OBC boys out of their comfort zone a bit is nice to see at least.
The side benefit is this keeps out all the other ex players red wine room attending. None of them want to get tapped on the back and voluntold.

What a top notch, well-run organization.

If Katz extends Holland's contract he should be forced to sell the team.

Reactions: Lay Z Boy GM
I hate this organization. Every day it’s looking darker and darker.

Not only will Holland leave us with nothing, he’s managed to piss off McDrai to a point where they’ll leave too

Listening to the Oilstream and they are talking about a texter saying Leon will leave for sure. He could, but these guys will have a hard time finding another team (with cap space) who do the things Katz does. People sh** on Katz, bit at least he tries to give players anything they need. LA comes to mind that would do this stuff.

Did not know Katz has some ownership in an aviation company. Guessing this goes way back when he flew Team Canada to Vancouver.

Sounds like players make use of his private jet

This Kris guy seems like a proto-players coach. Hopefully we see success for him and our team here. Dumbass decision, but can't blame the new coach for taking a once in a lifetime opportunity.

There is another element to this.

We also dont know (but its extremely likely) that Knoblauch had this assistant imposed on him by the owner.

The question will likely never be asked but it should be...was the decision to hire Coffey as an assistant driven by ownership?

I cant remember the last time a new coach was hired and then the owner 'supplied' an assistant to 'help' with the transition.
I appreciate your (less negative) spin on this situation but regardless of which angle you look at this from its extremely suspect and not the type of situation that quality level organizations create.
Mickey Mouse stuff.
Again, my question remains, its November 13 and organizations aren't inclined to release their team's resources for lateral moves so who do you think was out there and available? The Oilers needed the good graces of Rangers to let their minor league guy go for this promotion.

Knoblauch has to keep his head above water jumping into a massively white hot situation with an underwater team and expectations of being a Cup favourite. Having him distracted to think about anything else adds more risk, unnecessary risk, to a high wire decision as is to go with a guy with no NHL head coaching experience (other than covid mop up duty).

Coffey is an in-house option, a known quantity with the players, and a guy that's won multiple Stanley Cups across organizations. There's a lot of experience to draw upon. Of course another option would have been to do nothing, let Knoblauch swim or sink with the existing coaching staff and wait until the off-season or late this season to try to add another assistant coach.

But again, from my first post reply, people can make up their own mind on this bizarre situation on basic of an organization that far too often has had questionable management decisions forever and on how they perceive Paul Coffey.

Remembrance Day will be marked as the day we lost McDavid and Draisaitl

This is what happens when we let idiot GM’s run the organization and blindly support every f***ing stupid decision they make. Only a matter of time now before rebuild 3.0 starts, or is it 4.0 now ?

All this crap because a team can’t figure out how to get 3 competent top 4 D and a goalie.
The funny thing is that if this org were even halfway good at drafting they wouldn't have to worry about this.

They haven't drafted a good starting goalie that played well for them since Fuhr.

They literally landed the hardest piece to land by continuously f***ing up and they just continued to f*** up because it "accidentally worked".

Lol.

Ken Holland “I spoke with the leadership group”

f***ing lying price of shit. why the f*** does this loser get to ride off into the sunset quietly. Fire this bum f*** this loser ass organization

That narrative is f***in stupid and Oilers fans should drop it if they want the best chance to resign McD.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Some fans around here already want him gone because they really don't know any better.

If I were him I'd already have half a foot out the door because the org seems more focused about keeping him happy than actually winning hockey games.

It is bizarre but yet it fits with what we have seen from Katz ...back in 2008 when he bought the team for example.
His history as owner revealed that he is fully capable of running a circus organization and yesterdays press conference (now that I have watched it) confirmed that.
So much in there...I mean Coffey didnt even want to coach and yet he is being told to be be a part of Knoblauchs coaching staff. How does that work?
So many absolutely bizarre and awkward elements in that press conference.
Its actually quite hilarious.

Who is the decision maker in this organization?

As Brentashton said...this whole thing is beyond ridiculous.
