Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

Feel bad for Woody
I've never heard of knoblauch before today.
Since the 80's I've always found Coffey to be a knob (no pun intended). My feelings haven't changed throughout the years.

Holy Shit, just got the notification on my phone and had to rush to HFOil. So they fire him after a pretty convincing win against Seattle but not after losing to the worst team in the league. Not shocking that he got fired but the timing of it is....strange.
He was getting fired after the road trip.

Thats why it happened after this game.

Knoblauch was McDavid's coach in Erie. He also coached Brown and Foegele in Erie as well, the latter after McDavid left. He has other Edmonton connections though. He played junior in Edmonton and also played at the U of A after his junior career was over.

In general, I like Knoblauch, but in this situation this is a huge risk. If it goes south I have no idea what that means for McDavid long term in Edmonton.
it also means Brown gets game 10

How does Holland have a job still? That's the real question.
Silly rabbit. You should know by now that HFOil should be your first source for news.

On the surface this decisions has all the markings of a classic Oilers DoD move.

Star players’s ex junior coach…….FML…..

Old Oilers player with zero coaching gets an assistant gig…….

Fans deserve better than what we get with this franchise. The Cleveland Browns ain’t got nothing on us. Dysfunction is what we do best.

That's a dumb reason. Not that it matters since he was being let go anyway but to keep him after the San Jose game then fire him after a win just seems stupid to me but whatever, the problems as usual exist much higher than Woody anyway so this is like putting a cork in a sinking titanic.

Oh and Paul Coffey as assistant is just so Oilers.

So, are we all agreed... If the new guy starts losing HFOil isn't allowed to start calling him "Knob+lick" until at least 2024. Let's at least give him a chance before we pull that one out.

Did a quick look around--sounds like the oilers spent the weekend talking to the rangers to get him. A talking heads believed they wanted him after the SJ game but rangers said no as they needed to do something on their end
Somehow someway it will probably cost us a 2nd round draft pick

Sutter is what Mcdrai need. And should have had eight years ago
Wasn't Knoblauch McDavid's junior coach? I'm sure he's super qualified.
Why would you need a multi-Cup winning coach when you can hire McDavid's hand picked coach? Knoblauch and Coffey is so Oilers it's not even funny.

Let me get this straight, you are surprised that a franchise pegged by most to contend for the cup is off to their worst start in franchise history and you are surprised they did the easiest possible move by firing the coach?
Yes when McDavid and Draisaitl are performing like 4th liners and the goalies are awful it’s wrong to see the coach take the hit

The org went on and on about stability in the coaching position, this is Hollands third coach in four years

Knoblauch is also very Western Canada/Edmonton. Played junior here, former U of A grad, grew up in Sask. Probably unironically cheered for Paul Coffey as a kid, what a treat and incredible conflict to coach with your idol.

My biggest concern with this whole schtik is why we refused to get a seasoned coach for this group - even over the offseason to work with Woody. Good luck to the rookie head coach (sorry, had 6 games with the Rangers by COVIDway), but may not be the best time to learn the NHL game. Guess we'd be up in arms if Julien or Vigneaut was here, too.
