Confirmed with Link: Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson fired - no more Woody during NNN - Kris Knoblauch hired, Coffey as assistant

He's coached in the AHL the last 5 years. Get your facts straight

When did I say he didn’t? There is a difference between coaching there 5 years and being qualified for our head coaching position. Maybe work on your reading comprehension bud.

Coaching 5 years in the AHL doesn’t automatically make him qualified for the job. I just don’t understand what made him a qualified candidate besides his history with Connor and Jackson. Guess that was enough to do it.

shwartz has to have some incriminating photos of katz there is just no other way. like you have to accept the basic premise that our goalies are not doing well and we cant really trade them so at the very least you WOULD think that a goalie coaching change could help in this situation
It's been implied he is Jewish or related to DK via marriage. At this point-- who knows. But it's bonkers he has survived as many coaches as he has.

A panic move based on a 14 game sample where the analytics prove that the team hasn’t given up on Woody. Holland scrambling to save his own ass, looking for trades, making demotions, and in all that time I’m supposed to believe he did an extensive and effective search for a coach and what he came up with was TWO former Oilers? One of which is already with the organization and has never coached a day in his life, the other another Decent AHL coach ala Woody with zero championship pedigree unlike confirmed good hires in Bednar and Cooper.

Holland better have atleast read the room when he made this firing. He better have atleast confirmed the players wanted this. Canning a coach McDrai like could be a nail in the coffin of the McDrai era as much as keeping Woody and seeing what happens. Somehow I doubt Holland did this, the lazy f***.

Knoblauch was McDavid's coach in Erie. He also coached Brown and Foegele in Erie as well, the latter after McDavid left. He has other Edmonton connections though. He played junior in Edmonton and also played at the U of A after his junior career was over.

In general, I like Knoblauch, but in this situation this is a huge risk. If it goes south I have no idea what that means for McDavid long term in Edmonton.

Hope Knoublauch wasn’t just gifted this job, I doubt there’s a ton of candidates right now but sure feels like Jackson had his guy in mind and gifted him the job rather than going through a process. And why are we hiring Coffey…? Can’t we hire a legitimate assiatnt instead of bringing in an ex Oiler who hasn’t coached shit before in his life. This has disaster written all over it but I’m gonna remain hopeful, dear god this team sometimes…

Which other candidates? I can’t think of another time where there were fewer possible options.

There are a few out there I would personally have liked to see but don’t want to get into that debate. I do firmly believe we should’ve went with a more veteran coach rather than relying on a rookie given where we are at

AN EX OILER IS THE ASSISTANT COACH!?!)?

He is retiring at the end of the year. Why is he looking to save his own ass?

I would bet large amounts of money he isn't even the one making major decisions right now.

A good article on Knoblauch:

He’s the GM. Assume the GM is doing GM things until he isn’t. Yes Jackson Is here, but we have ZERO confirmation he has taken over day to day GM duties besides our own speculations. And I’m NOT going to excuse Hollands LIKELY actions based on unknown speculations.

Ok, but again. Who? If there are so many naming a few shouldn’t be hard.

The only possible options that fit that criteria are Babcock, Quennville, and Gallant. Two are persona non grata and one by all reports would be all wrong for this group.

Woodcroft was the most successful oilers coach is years yet has that short of a leash?
Let me get this straight, you are surprised that a franchise pegged by most to contend for the cup is off to their worst start in franchise history and you are surprised they did the easiest possible move by firing the coach?

Holy Shit, just got the notification on my phone and had to rush to HFOil. So they fire him after a pretty convincing win against Seattle but not after losing to the worst team in the league. Not shocking that he got fired but the timing of it is....strange.

How does Holland have a job still? That's the real question.
