Even if WAS true (which it is not), you gave away the Conn Smyth winner for a guy, and are still out of the playoff hunt at the All-Star break. Again.

A lot of warning signs of Botterill’s poor abilities were there when he hired Housley. Most of the warning signs were there when he traded ROR. The rest happened this season once injured guys came back.

That isn't what happened.

He flipped OReilly for depth and assets (NO cap space difference), and then acquired Skinner separately.

That's blatantly false. Don't lie.
Technically he could have easily kept O'Reilly and added Skinner, we all know this. I'm saying that he took a last place team and basically tried to fix it by flipping out O'Reilly and bringing in Skinner.

Maybe Botts isn’t as safe as I thought.

8.
The Sabres resumed their season with a 5–2 home loss to Ottawa on Tuesday night. At all-star weekend, I heard some talk of the frustration around the organization and how much the losing is wearing on owner Terry Pegula. We’re coming up on nine years since he bought the Sabres. At that media conference, he promised to spend, which had Sabres fans dancing with joy. He’s spent on players, coaches, executives, scouting — everything. They made the playoffs that first season, losing in seven games to Philadelphia. But there have been no playoff berths since, and the team is 80 games under .500 in that span.

Players credited Ralph Krueger with changing the attitude around the team, and Jack Eichel’s having a Hart Trophy-calibre season. But they’re 10 points out as we wake up on Wednesday and there are no easy answers. The disappointment is not going unnoticed.

I think goes beyond that. We laughed off the whole Dalton Smith affair but if one of our crack reporters does some digging I bet they'd find out it caused a rift between Krueger and Botterill.

How did Krueger feel about the Dalton Smith signing?
How did Krueger feel about Smith being added to his roster?
How did Botterill feel about Krueger only playing Smith 86 seconds?
Why was Smith waived the next day?

No. He let Kane walk and replaced Kane with Skinner when the Canes got fed up with Skinner’s do My own thing shyte. ROR was traded for Berglund who quit, Vlad who sucks, Tage an ahl tweener and Ryan Johnson. Period. No other spin. We could have had Skinner and ROR. We had Dahlin. No excuse.

I think that's a bit of revisionist history. When we hired Housley, he was an up-and-coming head coach. A can't miss guy. We were roundly applauded for getting him.

Whoops

no, it’s not revisionist history. He was a poor coach before he was hired, he was a poor hire for what the team needed (experience and stability). The decision to hire him was fully a bad judgement on the team. Peoples’ opinion on the hire doesn’t change the fact it was a bad hire.

I don't ever remember him being a can't miss guy.

Even if Housley was a positive hire at the time, you cut him loose when you realize he's unfit for the job. Not keep him for another year to mess with more player development.

It was evident by November of his inaugural season that Housley was unfit to coach an NHL team. It takes balls to fire a coach 15 games in.

I mean the previous GM was praised for this but I don't really have the energy to argue anymore.

The Sabres need to fix this and it starts with the Pegulas hiring someone with a proven track record of success with multiple teams and let them do whatever it is they feel they need to do.

Just had a thought...

I was expecting a different line to rhyme with “city” there at the beginning.

I’m sure Chicago has no regrets firing Savard after 4 games in 2008. Granted he coached the previous year, but they still made a gutsy call.
