It's because he's done nothing substantial other than basically flip O'Reilly for Skinner. That's because he's a cap guru.

Terrible hire but how do the Pegulas not hire Housely at that time? I mean they probably thought it was the perfect hire.Botts literally made it a last place team by hiring Housley.
Technically he could have easily kept O'Reilly and added Skinner, we all know this. I'm saying that he took a last place team and basically tried to fix it by flipping out O'Reilly and bringing in Skinner. That isn't what happened.
He flipped OReilly for depth and assets (NO cap space difference), and then acquired Skinner separately.
That's blatantly false. Don't lie.
A lot of warning signs of Botterill’s poor abilities were there when he hired Housley.
Maybe Botts isn’t as safe as I thought.
8. The Sabres resumed their season with a 5–2 home loss to Ottawa on Tuesday night. At all-star weekend, I heard some talk of the frustration around the organization and how much the losing is wearing on owner Terry Pegula. We’re coming up on nine years since he bought the Sabres. At that media conference, he promised to spend, which had Sabres fans dancing with joy. He’s spent on players, coaches, executives, scouting — everything. They made the playoffs that first season, losing in seven games to Philadelphia. But there have been no playoff berths since, and the team is 80 games under .500 in that span.
Players credited Ralph Krueger with changing the attitude around the team, and Jack Eichel’s having a Hart Trophy-calibre season. But they’re 10 points out as we wake up on Wednesday and there are no easy answers. The disappointment is not going unnoticed.
No. He let Kane walk and replaced Kane with Skinner when the Canes got fed up with Skinner’s do My own thing shyte. ROR was traded for Berglund who quit, Vlad who sucks, Tage an ahl tweener and Ryan Johnson. Period. No other spin. We could have had Skinner and ROR. We had Dahlin. No excuse.Technically he could have easily kept O'Reilly and added Skinner, we all know this. I'm saying that he took a last place team and basically tried to fix it by flipping out O'Reilly and bringing in Skinner.
Botterill is a great GM and isn’t going anywhere
He has a big offseason ahead of him tho
I think that's a bit of revisionist history. When we hired Housley, he was an up-and-coming head coach. A can't miss guy. We were roundly applauded for getting him.
Whoops

It was evident by November of his inaugural season that Housley was unfit to coach an NHL team. It takes balls to fire a coach 15 games in.Even if Housley was a positive hire at the time, you cut him loose when you realize he's unfit for the job.
I mean the previous GM was praised for this but I don't really have the energy to argue anymore. He took a team that finished 5th from tje bottom and made them finish last.
Well what I mean is the cap situation is better next year than it was when Botterill took over. Botterill took over a last place team with cap problems.
Just had a thought...

the owner's main concern with his GM:
It's because he's done nothing substantial other than basically flip O'Reilly for Skinner.
