he was nothing short of real good last night.

I was pretty impressed. Kept it simple. Got a few nice steals in the defensive zone. I'm thinking of one in particular when he picked the pocket of one of the wings players and tried to get it out of the zone on the PK. It didn't get out but the steal was nice.

He did make some very good plays and only blew two easy plays with the puck. That's definitely trending upwards. Maybe he just feels more comfortable now getting more reps?

I liked his game a lot last night, I think he may be out of his rut and can focus playing his game.

He isn't trying to do to much, and is being put in a position to succeed. Watching from the box and realizing what he needs to do in order to succeed has done wonders.

I agree he looked good last night.
Thought he was doing a good job recently keeping it simple but last night he was a little more assertive in closing gaps. That holding call was just bad luck, it was a good defensive play.

I've hated on Cowen in the past, but he was really good last night. Would love to see 10-15 games of that level of play to re-establish my confidence in him, but so far so good.

Now just keep him away from Karlsson.

This.

Methot is the only D-man I'd see that wouldn't suffer too much from playing with Karlsson (well, the way he's playing right now)

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Ceci
Phillips-Gryba
Borowiecki

That D has the potential to be excellent and is for now very underrated, but that will change... or lol I hope, with the stats later in the season. Like I said last year, the main problem was the way forwards played and also the inexperience, of course.

That 2nd pairing has a great future, so if we can upgrade Methot, that D group could make some damage... Claesson, Englund, Harpur and/or Wikstrand etc replace Phillips and Gryba when they are gone.

Can you come back now, please, Marc Methot? Ok thanks

I've been saying all along, everyone was way too quick to write Cowen off. He is a 23 year old. He is not a grizzled vet who is at his peak and has nowhere to go but stagnate or down. Everyone who watched him play his rookie year knew that he could play a simple, yet effective role at the minimum.

Watching his mistakes be blown up, no matter how small, or how much was actually a product of him was awful.

Whatever Jason Smith's been doing with him I hope he keeps it up.

Best thing Smith can do for Cowen is not let him get down on himself like most on this board did.

Cowen can play, he just needed to simplify his game and gain some confidence.

I thought he played very well tonight, did a very good job at both ends of the ice.

His best game in over 3 years.

He looked like a different player in the offensive zone tonight. He made moves with the puck I never thought he was ever capable of and he shutdown players perfectly 1on1.
