You can't beat the refs at this level. Clutch and grab and dive - this is canadian style and the refs allowed them to play it. Worse team won in this ugly ugly game.

:) Congrats to you too. :propeller

No skill, divers and cheap shot artist like Downie is the MVP for Canada. This is a joke.

Oh, shut the hell up. You Russians have done nothing but whine all game long... which is more "typical" than anything Team Canada did.

You got your asses handed to you by the better team. Deal with it, "comrade."

Wow sour grapes to the max, so I guess all those high sticks on Canadian players and all those trips and crosschecks on canadians were clean eh?

Face it, as I've said before, the Canadian team was better in every single way to the Russians and they proved it on the ice.

siberian with whatever due respect you have ZERO idea what you're talking about. Russians dove all game..and we're in it for maybe 15 minutes. outshot canada in first and were subsequently POUNDED. But what more to expect then a name like 'siberian'. Canada set world junior record for ONLY ALLOWING ONE EVEN STRENGTH GOAL IN ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. and six in total. that is astonishing. Enough said. Try to be a good loser. congrats to russia, but they were RATTLED.Canada was the epitome of TEAM, that's why malkin was impotent tonight

They're playing "Fanfare for the Common Man" over the PA system. Absolutely brilliant choice of music for this team.

Wow .. Pogge didn't get Tourny Goaltender MVP ... Downie looked shocked...

Rask = Best Goaltender
Stall = Best Defensemen
Malkin = Best Forward

I thought Rask was a great choice myself. He faced more quality shots against in that one game vs Sweden than Pogge faced the entire tournament. Though you just cannot argue with a GAA of 1.00 and a save percentage around .950. Shame they did not name co-winners.

Nah. The Russians were still the more skilled team. But - obviously - it takes more than skill to win.

Even strength this team was - by far - the best in the tournament. And overall they were the best team, albeit not the most skilled.

I've got Siberian on my ignore list. He will remain there for life.

I told everyone at the beginning of the thread:

If we want to keep this discussion civil, we have to ignore Siberian. And please don't let him be representative of Russian hockey fans, whom I know are mostly more mature than this. Don't get baited. Let's keep it civil. :)

As glad as I am the Canada won, I was disappointed by Russia's effort in this game. The first period was terrific but after falling behind 2-0, Russia seemed to give up. Too bad because it would have been a much better hockey game.

Canada just dominated this game. The Ruskies showed no heart throughout.

The win was well deserved. The d-corps was amazing, especially Staal and Parent. They completely shut down the Malkin line, gave that line nothing.

I thought Cogliano stepped up his game tonight, as did Blunden.

I personally didn't think Downie deserved to be on the team before the Tournament started. Boy was I wrong! He plays with his heart on his sleeve. He's going to be one great NHL'er!

Pogge played well, mind you the defence really shut the whole Russian Team down.

Go Canada!

Where are all the American posters? No congrats from any of them?

:sarcasm: Please, no need to bring this up. Just enjoy being the best. Again. :)

Yeah russian team was the better team on the ice... :sarcasm:

They stopped playing after 30mins what a great team!

Like I said, at this level the ref can decide the game. Timely calls, timely non-calls, the ref did everything smart changing the flow of the game. Great first period by Russia until the officiating took the wind out of the players. This was one bad Gold medal game.

Whine or no whine the flow of this tourney has been a tightly called game. This game on the other hand has been complete ****. This ref let everything fly from both teams. Just another example of ****** NA reffing. What happened to the IIHF no tolerance policy? This ref let this game get totally out of control at the begining and set the pace for ******** from both teams for the rest of the game. Both Canadian and Russian fans should be thankfull no one got hurt. There was great disipline on the Russian part at the end. Down 5 - 0 no more games left with a dirty game, i would have def dropped the gloves. Guess everyone is like Ryan Smith tho at the end of the CZE- Can gold medal game in Austria last year.

Great job by Poggie. Russia really dropped the ball. Thank God the olympics are in a month. Needless to say, i am crushed.

I can live with that choice too...

Anyway... The leafs have 2 freakin' great prospects in the net! WOW!
