I say that Steve Downie was the best player for Canada in that he personified exactly what got them the win: hard work, fighting every battle, and coming in as the underdog but leaving as the champ.

I think Pogge personifies that attitude even more. ;)

As sure as the Russians would win this one easily eh :D

Since when have i ever said this would be a easy win for team Russia? :dunno:

Other Russian posts are not my posts. Any one who thinks it's easy to win a medal at home against ANY Canadian team is an idiot.

Perhaps it wasn't your posts but we have been hearing that for days.
Makes this all the sweeter dontcha think? :)

I said if Pogge stands on his head and the boys play the game of their lives we would have a chance to win.

Boy did they come together

And look at the stats i dont think we have 1 player in the top 10 in tournament scoring

Good job boys

Wow...

Malkin was right. This was "easy", but not in the way he or I would have thought.

Notes - pressure on 'Hudo' = rebounds = goals for Canada
- Steve Downie is Bobby Clarke's long lost son
- Ryan Parent should have recieved top defenseman over Staal, but I guess
Staal is almost equal
- Russia's defense could not handle the physical forecheck of Canada, nor
could they handle the Canadian's in a scramble in front of the net - this
shocked me I expected them to be stronger on the puck/man
- Russia's breakout was constantly stalled by the angling of Canada's
forwards
- Justin Pogge is for real. Wow, did Toronto ever pick up a sure thing!
- the Russian's should have been awarded a goal; rules be damned :madfire:

Wow. Wow.

Wow

**Post edit - this team is young, 2/3rd's of this team can come back for two more years!!! :amazed:

Wow. Wow.

Wow

Canada dominated the game and the tournament.

And they did it without Crosby and Brule.

I am impressed!

gainey needs to bring chipchura up ASAP so my saltwater taffee creampuff habs get a wakeup call NOW

Very true, and it was more a representation of grace than Downie could ever exhibit. ;)

But Downie got his nose and hands filthy rotten dirty and didn't stop moving except to lie on the ice after an elbow to the head.

Credit to Malkin for not sobbing like a girl and taking it like a man. It was difficult to see an awesome player like Lisin doing the dry heave cry beside the boards. The Russians deserve all of the credit in the world for playing a tough game and stacking up to the physical play.

It really is cool to see the Russian game evolving. Sure, they still dive a bit. That's the way it is though. It's a different game. Still. Over the years, their game has evolved from an all finesse game to an almost Canadian style. They hit, they take hits like the big boys and they give it until it's over.

I'm a big Malkin fan now though. He played a great game considering the score. Can't wait to see him over here next year.

I agree 100%. There seem to be a couple bad apples in the group but in general they fought hard and your right, they showed they can hit, and hit well.

As for Malkin, this doesn't change anything about him either in my mind. They were all over him. I mean they were on his *** for 10 seconds after he last touched the puck hitting him and pushing him around...and probably trash talking too. Plus that crowd. There's no way anyone could keep focus being the target he was. He's a great talent and will probably dominate next year in the NHL.

is it true that the canadians had petition to get a USA ref instead of a swedish one?

Staal best defenseman congrats, but...

Parent?
Bourdon?
Barker?

They all played identical hockey at the WJC. How can they just give it to him? IMO this is another reason why there should be CO-winners.

Just got back from the bar, what a great game! Man, the physicality, the emotions, the skill, overall a tremendous game. That's why I love this tournament. Congrats to Canada on a huge win, and congrats to the Russians on playing a good game. There was a great atmosphere in the bar and overall it was just great to see our boys win the game.

No Love For Chipchura? The guy is a hard working prospect... and was a great captain for team canada ;)

Being an Islanders homer, I would say Comeau deserves it. I think he lead the team in scoring(3G,4A) and didn't get all the sweet PP time others did while killing penalties.

Yes, we've made such good friends of the Americans this tournament we figured an American ref would be a shoe-in to give Canadians the calls.

This was the worst game of the tournament

Are you serious? This was a great game. There was a ton of hitting and a ton of great chances by both teams. The scoreboard might have made it seem like Canada dominated, but it was a pretty close game. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It was my favourite of the tourney. Much more enjoyable than Canada-US on the 31st imo.

I was at a 400 seat bar tonight and the entire place was chanting 'Pogge, Pogge, Pogge' throughout the game, It's embarrasing that he didn't win top goalie. Obviously the let the kids from Finland's Make A Wish Foundation vote on the award instead of real scouts, because it wasn't even close.

Felt bad for the Russians after that phantom goal... Kinda hoped they made it 2-1 to even things out, and they almost did.

Of course, I'm ecstatic as a Canadian fan. Favorite tourney of the year never disappoints in the end. Great times watching the game with the family.

And... Just because I can, and while most posters were good sports throughout this tourney, and all sides had some bad posters...

Team Canada will try Sutter's "positionally sound" defense first system and try to initiate a strong forecheck. Pogge will shine early until the defense starts looking like a midget league holding up dainty-naps to stop the Johnstown Flood of 1889, and then the painfully slow defense of the Canadian team will start to look like pylons before Sutter throws in the towel and Pogge starts looking for the exit doors. 12-3 Russia.

No need to name names. I'm sure that poster is grinding their teeth to the gums anyway.
