Traded Jakob Chychrun (D)

Bobby Ryan was the same way. Always falling down for no reason, and getting injured. He had terrible balance and skating (for an NHL player).
To be fair to Ryan, he was always injured by shots hitting his hands or slashes to his hands, he wasn't typically getting hurt from being knocked over.

True, but the fact he was always on his butt didn't make him look like the most durable player on the ice.

In the excitement about finally adding a top 4 D people kind of forgot the dude is made of glass.

He'll be able to provide 50-60 games of good defense, but we can't count on him to play a full season.

Has never done that and after surgeries on damn near every appendage it's more likely than not as he gets older the trend will be more games missed and not less.

I mean Brady Tkachuk falls down all the time.
Ya, good point.

It's probably just me being sour. When we traded for Bobby Ryan he had just come off of four 30 goals seasons.

When we got him he never had more than 23 goals in a season. Only scored over 20 twice in 7 seasons. I always thought he had an injury that affected his skating which stopped his goal scoring.

And to be fair to me, lol, Brady has given us some pretty impressive seasons despite falling down from time to time.

He played a full season in 20-21.

Very ecstatic to see what Chychrun can do after a full training camp with the team next season. The coaching staff needs to figure out how to best utilize the current riches of defensive talents. Think Chabot and Sanderson retains LD positions, with Chych and Chong Brannstrom potentially having a transition to the right side.

This injury doesn't faze my excitement of having Chych on the team, just making me more excited about the next season when this team will contend for it's first playoffs since 2017.

He's out a couple weeks, so we won't see him until game 3 of the playoffs, perhaps. Or maybe start of 2nd round if it's anything lingering.
I trust very little of what I hear from the teams on injuries. They usually downplay them, so when they give an estimate it is almost never earlier than that.

I beat this drum regularly, but I believe that the NHL owes its fans the same kind of transparency on injuries that the NFL gives. I'm not asking to see the guy's MRI, but some basic facts on what the injury is (ankle, knee, etc.) and a best estimate on timeline isn't too much to ask in my view...

No reason to ignore the 20-30 games he missed on average in the 4 seasons from 16/17 to 19/20, other than to pretend he's more durable than he's actually been over his career.

He's gotten surgeries on both knees, his wrist twice, shoulder and ankle. That's not going to help going forward.

Have to be realistic about how many games we can expect him to play in a normal season.
