Wasn't it Yotes management who told Jakob they wanted to trade him?
Coyotes fan here (and closet Senators fan - I was born in Ottawa and they are the team I root for in the Atlantic).

As per the Coyotes GM they met with Chychrun and explained it was going to be a painful 3 to 4 year rebuild. He asked if Chychrun was willing to wait it out or if he would rather be moved. Chychrun said he would prefer to go to a team that could contend.

You can really tell he's happy to be here and I think some of that credit goes to the Coyotes. They probably could have gotten slightly more from another team, but recognized this was best for Jakob. He turns an up and coming team into a serious contender and has roots in Ottawa. Little things like that go a long way when talking about real people and that guy has been uncertain about his future for a year and a half with constant speculation. That's hard for anyone and thankfully Arizona found him the best situation to "pay him back"

They asked him if he wanted to stay through a rebuild or go elsewhere. Neither side was coming up with ultimatums

Well the people who keep saying he asked for a trade should probably stop doing that then.

I could see Chychrun becoming my second favorite Senator in a very short amount of time. Always liked the player even on a crappy team, but to see his personality shine here while playing meaningful hockey is showing how great of a human he is.

And I still can't believe we snagged the best dman on the market. Dorion has my respect from now on.
So how does it go

I really like our top 5 D now. This is why we control games and out shoot oppenents, which wasn't the case in previous years, or this year when 1 or 2 of Chabot, Zub, or Sandy was injured.

Next year, I hope they bring back Hamonic as our #6, as the guy is such a warrior, eventually to be supplanted by Kleven.

JBD could be a future #6, maybe #5 if he cuts down on mistakes, but doesn't have much upside, and has no offensive skill. Thomson will be a fringe NHLer at best.

For the record DJ can’t stand JBD.

Hopefully he still has an opportunity to take that 3rd pairing role. I liked some of what we saw from JBD. He can be an NHLer as a 5/6/7 for us, just probably not top 4 material. I'd rather keep him and waive Lassi if its between the two.

I must have watched it 20 times. You can't see the puck leave his stick, it's insane. It just clinks on the post and it's in.

I'll admit that he's much better than I thought on my limited viewings of him. Unless it's extra adrenaline, but I doubt that's what it is. He's like the perfect prototype of what you want in a dman.
Coyote fan coming in peace. I have watched Chych since the Coyote's drafted him. It really pisses me off we traded him for a lousy draft pick. Not only do you get a great player, you also get a kid with great character. He has a great wrister, and slapper. Because of his skating he loves to pinch and moves all over the ice. Not very often does a player with his talent, age and contract come available in a trade. You guys fleeced our rookie GM big time. Of course I'm getting flamed on the Coyote board as most are doing back flips that we get a mid 1st. rounder. Hope you guys make the playoffs and I hope Chych helps lead the way.

Cheers. I hope we give you two late first rounders and you get superstars with both of them :thumbu: tons of respect for all AZ/PHX diehards.
Kind of you to say that! My preference be you guys finish 16th with amazing momentum heading into next year. We win the lottery with that pick. I’ll take that as a 1b. As long as TML don’t win anything…
Wasn't it Yotes management who told Jakob they wanted to trade him?
They sat down and gave him the option 18 months ago. After he talked it out with his family he decided to move forward with the request. There was mutual respect on both sides to do what was best for both parties.

It’s taken a long time but we have a great front office that seems to be run the right way. There was definitely a human aspect that was being played the right way. Took a little longer than both wanted, but it leaves the door open for him coming back. He loves it here as do most of our athletes. I see AM all the time here during the summer. I think what you see is relief and now he can focus on going beast mode the next 2 plus years for you guys. Hopefully he gets the recognition he deserves.

Edit: from my understanding he sees a bright future in your team so kudos to you guys… he believes in your roster.

The initial asking price was too high for me. I was surprised we got him for what we did. I am so over losing the 1st rd pick this year. He is going to fit in here really well. Thanks for stopping in.

You get flamed for being always glass half empty and openly admitting to not watching all the games. Get your a big fan but we hardly got fleeced. This was about the ask all along. We are gambling on the pick being high in a good draft. Here I am talking about the trade but that’s HF… Kudos to the sens for not ponying up a top prospect. Chych is a beast and he hasn’t even begun to hit his ceiling yet and that’s downright scary. Ottawa has insane mobility on their backend and Chych fits into that age group as well. Not only are you getting a potential top pairing D but also a guy that will make your strength and conditioning coach redundant. When you impress nhl athletes taking the shirt off that says something about your conditioning.

I don’t have those details lol. All I know is that DJ can’t stand him and doesn’t want him in the lineup
Like personality wise?

Play wise I Honeslty get it. Jbd looked amazing at the first rookie camp he was part of. And then…. Eh. His style of play you need to be one of rangy, physical, or quick. He’s none of those things.
and offers exactly zero offense. I wonder if they were counting ona. Growth spurt or something.

Makes sense, he's not much of a player. No dynamism. Plays a defensive game, but makes boneheaded errors that you can chalk up to inexperience. Very low upside. If he's in another organization next year, I don't care. Dime a dozen player.

Then why does he seem to play him on the top pair every time he's called up....

Then again, DJ played Zaitsev with Chabot too, maybe that's just what he does with guys he doesn't think are any good...

Well the people who keep saying he asked for a trade should probably stop doing that then.

It's an internet message board, people are either gonna make shit up to prove a point or they only know partial information. And really, we only know what we're told in the media...where they also make shit up to sell their shitty product.

Oh you guys definitely got fleeced, and it'll become clearer as time moves on no doubt.

Have fun following that I guess. Already made clear my stance on it. Chych has devastating injury history. If he only suits up half the time in those two years, would one still feel that way? Especially if we draft gems with those picks. How about if we win the lottery and pick 6? Too many variables I don’t care to argue about. Personally I care about Chych that’s all, and if he’s happy and healthy that’s all that matters. Just glad he didn’t go to LA. My desire to fleece a team that I actually like isn’t strong at all. It’s about what I expected. Some had a stronger desire for more, but that just typical HF greediness. Good luck with the push.

I want to see more of both JBD and LT. JBD has shown little to no offensive ability and LT did show some. Hopefully one of them will be good enough to become a #5, 6 or 7D for us at a low salary.
