great post, I'd love to add a big mobile guy with offense, but Dubious is running out of trade chips unless he wants to start digging into the farm and waiving around Knies or someone like him, I really think that kid's going to be a star. He looked great with the USA

Not sure I agree with that statement.

The Leafs have 4 REALLY GOOD prospects, that are either potential immediate NHL players (Robertson), recent 1st round picks (Amirov), or who have seen meteoric rise in value since their draft position (Knies, Niemla). They also have their 1st and 2nd picks this year.

I don't know who the right piece is. I personally don't think it's a guy like Giordano. I think they should probably still be targetting the right side, given the emphasis they want to place on Rasmus Sandin, and the fact that TJ Brodie could probably play on the left as well.

giordano won the norris in 2019 playing with brodie, theres definitely worse options to bring in(depending on the cost)
handedness never used to be a thing when it came to getting the best available players, man times have changed.

Imagine his career ends on his birthday. :(
There should be another option other than to a like a post, but yes, tragic potentially.
Health first.
Edit to add: terrible fortune with health. But saying the trade and signing is bad is revisionist history, if not for what’s actually been terrible luck, he’s still a rock for the duration of his (what was at the time) reasonable if not slightly below market value contract.

This is a good point. I'm not sure the Leafs would break up Reilly and Brodie, but if they had him they could at least feel comfortable in doing so and trying to spread out the talent.

Muzzin has to heal. He is not old at all for a defenseman and he can still be a force when healthy.

Two months off dealing with specialists and working through it all to the point that he feels comfortable playing his game while using the cap space/assets to pick up a rental or more would be a big deal.

We simply need more D men who can handle bodies in front. It is only going to get worse in the playoffs. Find more Russian bears, they don't even need to be Russian. :)

When an older big man is near da end these things tend to occur .. sad but true .. father time has reduced his wheels and da brain can only take you so far as an experienced vet .. he knows what to do but legs are not there like before .. Leafs are to blame here as playing him with Holl made da aging occur faster .. he had to work too hard to make up for Holl's errors past 2 seasons .. we should have been able to get this year and part of next season from Muzzy but now it appears doubtful .. sad situation and hope for best from Muzzy .. good idea to LTIR him balance of season as he need a couple months to try to heal
Considering Holl has been reasonable when paired with Sandin and Muzz has been awful in any circumstance I’m not sure your opinion holds a ton of weight.
Feel bad for Muzz and hope he heals up and is okay, not even for the team but for his family. Head injuries suck are dangerous.

IF Muzz is out until playoffs, this could be a great opportunity for the leafs to add multiple pieces, one more top 4 D plus top 6 forward since they’ll have cap space. Yes it will cost potentially some picks/prospects but we could pull a Tampa (kind off, I get that Kucherov magic addition for Tampa was much better)

Poor guy, I hope he's ok and can come back this season. 2 confirmed concussions in 1 season, with this one looking to be major, is a pretty big deal for his health.

Idk if he's gonna even be able to come back from this one. Prayers up for Muzz
Definitely if he is indeed concussed .he will be gone minimum 8 weeks

I believe he stayed in Montreal over night.
Any update?

w/o draft picks those players are the current Leafs future and also affordable players even if they develop into NHL players, for the next few years in order to keep it going, once they expire into the second contract and unless the cap jumps lots, you will have to make some really hard decisions about your line-up.

Gio would be a strong add, so I agree there:thumbu:

Good we even know what a concussion is now .. us older guys likely had 30+ of them over our careers .. all i can remember is vomiting at hotels across da States many a night .. docs back then did not know much and players did not want to lose their spots in lineup .. so guys just played for years with concussions .. probably why when I watch film back then we always look so bad lol.. it is one of best things about pro hockey now in modern era is all da craziness and violence is out of da game .. Holl though my friend has very little hockey skill .. i don't care about stats and numbers as coaches don't coach those things .. we coach skating-power and lateral, shooting, passing, hockey systems/iq etc - all of which Holl is not a qualified NHL defender based on his hockey skill set .. he is a good AHLer and a 6/7 NHLer which is better then I got to so good for him .. and he is not da smartest dude either .. but he has courage and won't back down from getting wiped out

I wouldn't go for Giordano. I think the Leafs have to look at guys that are longer term replacements.

As for draft picks, I think it may be worth noting that the Leafs are a pretty good team, despite the fact that they have very few of their recent, non-star draft picks making any sort of meaningful contribution.

Sandin & Liljegren are bottom pairing defencemen. Dermott is out of the lineup more often than not. Engvall is probably replacable for the $1.25m he makes.

The Leafs haven't really been making a habit of trying to integrate their youth and take advantage of ELCs. They've leaned more towards rehabilitating veterans.

I hope Muzz will be ok but I hate to say this, it might actually be a good thing for the team. Use his cap space, trade Holl the f*** away, and be aggressive to get some real D-men, like Chychrun, Giordano and Manson, i mean all of them.
Than hopefully Muzz will be back in the playoff and plays like an actual NHL D unlike the past few months.

Trade Kerfoot as well for a tough LW. I'm f***ing tired.

We are in playoffs now .. Muzzy needs to rest up on LTIR .. we need to upgrade our defense to have any shot in playoffs .. it is absolutely perfect time to cheat like Tampa cheated .. with a concussion there is no 1 medical test which says you are over it .. no DOC anywhere would contest a guy who says he feels off .. then if he can play in playoffs great if not then next year

Free cap space. You can bet your life Leafs take advantage of it and why shouldn't they ???

That was nasty. Hope he’s ok. They’ll be extra cautious with him now. I think you have to go forward assuming he’s out for the season. If he makes progress, keep him out to make sure he’s absolutely ready. Then he’s a bonus
