Hes just awfully misused. He need to be giving all the offensive soft minutes, none of this, pair him with Doughty against top competition nonsense. I don't understand what he did to get the top pairing duty, when Martinez never got a shot

Dont get Sutters man crush on Muzz. He is a work in progress and needs to get his chops in but man..... not at the expense of Martinez. We need an upgrade on D with Muzz and Green going the other way. Its Martinez's time and new D coming in.

Muzztard is not a smart player and wasn't on the team that won the cup, because he's not up that that level of intelligent play.

Dude should be traded, or sat down for 20 games.

Sutter doesn't like Martinez, Mitchell/Regehr are having problems logging the mins to play with Doughty. Muzzin is the only option.

He is a liability, good for at least 1 big scoring chance per game. Can't get his shot through/on net.

What are you going to get to fill the top line spot at a 1M cap hit? Bod? Orlov? McNabb? Martinez may be the best answer.

Doughty said he wants to play with Muzzin, and basically only Muzzin.

Muzzin was OKish last year. Horrible playoffs.

Horrible this year, and provided we make it it can only be worse.
I'm good with a Muzzinless team.

miscast is the biggest problem, but in my humble opinion, he's just as bad on lower pairings because there aren't talented players to support him.

It's amazing how the Kings are 1st at defense with a player like Muzzin on the blueline. I really think a big reason why Doughty has struggled is that he is missing that Scuderi/O'Donnell type of defenseman, now he has to bail out his defense partner more often than not and has to cover for his mistakes.

I actually see why the coaching staff has no other option but to play Muzzin too. They really are lacking in depth on the blueline. Management retained Regehr because they knew Scuderi was going to walk away and Mitchell and Greene both practically missed an entire season due to injuries. So you have a combination of slow and beaten up veterans with inexperienced and mistake prone defensemen, and Drew Doughty who isn't playing his best hockey.

And despite all that, defense remains tops in the league, which goes to show you how much of a team effort it is, and for that reason, the offense struggles. The forwards are so focused in on supporting the defense combined with the struggles by the defensemen to get the puck up the ice and on the tapes of forwards' sticks are two magnifying reasons why this team just isn't getting it done on the scoreboard.

Muzzin by my count had 7 of his shots block out of the 17 total blocks today by the Flyers. Not one shot got through. You can't have your guys on the points get their shots blocked everytime.

As for Doughty only wanting to play with Muzzin, as long as he keeps making glaring mistakes that cost us goals they won't be paired together. As soon as he turned it over and the goal was scored, Muzzin was no longer with Doughty. I actually think he was benched for a few shifts.

Very good writing.

Maybye we should concentrate on improve our defence, not our offence.

I love to get players like Ottawa's Eric Gryba (tough rightshooting D, not much skill, RFA) and Jared Cowen (left D, injuryprone, but upside is huge, signed 2016-17, caphit 3,1 mil.).

Dustin Brown, Jake Muzzin, Kevin Gravel or Derek Forbort <-> Jared Cowen, Eric Gryba, a lower level pick.

Cowen - Doughty
Regehr - Voinov
Martinez - Grypa

Mitchell

trade Greene for picks or keep 8 d-men

I'm thinking that most of you may change your mind if and when he starts scoring again. Personally, I don't think Muzzin has been as bad as a lot of you guys are saying. With that said, I blame Sutter for leaving him up on the 1st pairing. Muzzin may be ok on as our 3rd pairing.

I agree with you except he should be our 7th defenseman ideally. But what can we do, Scuderi left us.

The biggest issue is that he's playing top minutes for a guy who doesn't PK. This causes Mitchell to play third pairing. He needs sheltered minutes.

Well, on December 19th the Kings were what...challenging the Ducks for 1st in the West?

It also goes back to training camp too.

I get why the Kings are high on Muzzin, and why Doughty would want to line up next to him. I also think if the Kings thought they had a better option, we wouldn't see Muzzin so much.

Regehr - 1000 games played
Mitchell - 771
Greene - 495
Doughty - 421
Martinez - 181
Voynov -159
Muzzin - 108

Regehr is a step down from Scuderi, even the Scuderi of last year, but if not Regehr, who would be there? How many defensemen changed teams over the summer?

You couldn't buy Mitchell out if he was hurt, and if he's healthy, why would you buy him out or trade him?

Greene has had a rough couple years. He hasn't been able to stay healthy since the 2012 playoffs.

Doughty has barely played the equivalent of 5 seasons, and he's only 24. Martinez has barely played more than 2 full NHL seasons. Voynov has yet to reach 164 games(and has played that way this year), and Muzzin still has a long way to go to get there himself.

It's been a mixed bag for the whole defensive unit this year.

Bump.

These playoffs have been the best span of play by Muzzin ever. He has grown so much and has been arguably the Kings second best defenseman (he's even outplayed Doughty at times). I believe this is a major turning point in his career.
