Ya keep adding.
Evans may get a first but with this being a career year for him the team that pays that amount is likely to have buyers remorse as soon as next season when they have to pay him 3 to 3.5 million a year long term. If he can maintain his production going forward it's a great deal but if he can't it becomes a pretty bad acquisition. It's the exact reason Montreal may be willing to trade him to begin with.

You're overrating what $3 mil can get and underrating Evans. He's a guaranteed 30 pt #3C that PKs and is defensively responsible.

If Evans was willing to sign a $3 mil deal i'd instantly trade a 1st for him. He's one of the better bottom 6 centers out there and in his prime. He's closer to being the next Danault/Lehkonen than he is being a player that you have buyer's remorse on.

When in your opinion does the deal become prohibitive ? 3.5 mill, 4 million ?

Depends the opportunity you give him. If you sign him at 4 mil and give him an opportunity like Compher got (who got overpaid with a 5 x 5 mil) you'd be fine with it.

I personally wouldn't go higher than $3.5 mil on a contender, but if I was a rebuilding/retooling team with cap to spare I could see him being fine value even at $4.5 mil.

Fair enough, I also agree anything over 3.5 million on a long term deal for a contender is to much. He'd be a nice veteran presence though on a rebuilding team even at 4 mill. I still think paying a first or even a first plus and then an extension at 3.5 mill is a bridge to far though and I think Evans is an excellent player.

Agree with this. I'll happily trade Devils 1st if they can re-sign Evans to a long term deal at a cap hit no more than $3.5m per season. If Evans wants to test the market, then I only offer a 2nd and a 3rd for a rental.

If he's willing to re-sign for 3.5M on a long term deal, I would assume the Habs keep him. If not, I think he's well worth a late 1st as a rental. UFA, low cap hit, swiss knife player, plays center and PK.

Evans is as good as gone unfortunately.

If this management didn't want to give Lehkonen 4 million + doubt they want to give Evans that money... unless they learned from their mistake.

Evans is having a hell of a season so far, but no way that shooting % will hold.

How do you know that? Cap more of an issue back then. Habs have tons caproom now.

If traded he will bring back a late first or equalient.
Next contract 4M ( or more ) check out all other players in his pt range and add the intangibles it's probly getting to 4.5/ year

I feel his value is higher to MTL to resign at 4(4,5)x4 years than to move for a late first

Ask Colorado fans if they would give a 1st for Lehkonen.
1st rounders are so overvalued in here it's ridiculous.
Lehkonen was an RFA.

"Guaranteed 30 points"

To this day he has never reached 30 points in a season

I think they will re sign him, they have a good culture now, they lack good veteran presence. He loves MTL and they don't want to make the Danault and Lehkonen mistake again. They will give him 5x3.5

Evans is now the number one 4th line center in the nhl. no fluke, he earned it and he is now in his prime. habs or someone else will be handing him 4 years at 3.5. I don't care what excuse some will use to offer a bag of pucks. this is not a computer game. Teams that are going for a cup this year need Evans to dominate all other 4th lines. your going to be forced to give up on assets you don't want to to get him. Habs will not sell for a bag of pucks.

At 5v5 you have 0 center more productive per minute played this year. Let that sink in.

Also happens to be the most used forward on the PK in the NHL with great results.

I could bet a fat amount that if he’s traded he gets a first.
Lol. “Let that sink in”. Ok, I did. He’s shooting 31% (career 8% before this year) with a 14% on ice shooting percentage (never higher than 8% before this year).
