Lol. “Let that sink in”. Ok, I did. He’s shooting 31% (career 8% before this year) with a 14% on ice shooting percentage (never higher than 8% before this year).
He’s gonna revert to mean at some point for sure, but he’d be a rental player. In that context, recent performances matter a lot more, and bump his value up.

Yes plus I think Guhle cap hit goes up an extra 3.2m per season but that’s the only increase that I see.
salf too but with the contracts coming off the books and the cap rising i think the habs are in a good spot. my only concern for them would be the habs trying to end the rebuild through free agency. dont want to do what the leafs did with tavares.

Forgot about Slaf. His cap hit only increases 3m which isint too bad.

With demidov coming next year, I see Newhook being moved back to center. Losing Evan and Dvorak who are good at face offs, in their own end and the PK will be a problem to replace.

Leafs would have been fine if Tavares was an actual defenseman and if Covid didn't derail cap growth. Leafs spend their available cap on a forward coming home when that money should have been spent on D.

Guhle is up 4.7 (from 0.9 to 5.6) and Slaf 6.6 (from 1 to 7.6), that s a 11.3m increase. (of course it depends how much bonuses young guys get this year)

Minus Dvorak, Savard, Armia, Evans.... $13.05M.

If Evans, Savard, and Armia come back with new contracts, doubt it totals $8M+. Only way we bring them back is we get decent team friendly deals.
* Evans can get 5 years at $4M max (if he wants more, let him walk)
* Savard and Armia can get $2M max (if they want to stay)

We also have Price's contract that we didn't need to have on LTIR before the season started. Habs are in a very good salary cap spot. When we might need more cap, we can count on cap growth and also Gallagher/Matheson/Anderson off the books.

If our plan is to move Newhook to a full time center role, we are not making the right decisions. I think we find a way to retain Evans for his prime years.

They will have to open the vault for Hutson next year. It makes it tougher to sign Evans long term.

The same offseason Hutson's second contract will kick in are when the contracts of Laine, Dach, Matheson and Price expire. His next contract wont have any affect on an Evans extension.

No it doesn't. Habs didn't even need Price's contract on LTIR to get under the cap to start the season.

Habs have more than enough room to sign Evans & Hutson and expiring contracts with a looming cap increase will keep the Habs well under the cap in the next 2/3 seasons. Maybe Demidov complicates it a bit but that is a few years away.

100% agree. The only cap challenges I see is when both Laine and Demidov need new deals. By that time, players like Beck, Kapanen, Roy, Hage will need extensions as well (or close to that timing). By then, Anderson, Matheson, Gallagher are off the books.

If we add a UFA that is $8M+ in the next two seasons, then it might get tricky.

Price’s contract just removes LTIR space,

And Montreal has been trying to use in-season LTIR, which has meant maneuvering so they have space to keep him off LTIR until the season starts.

Montreal's got like 51-52 mil committed to half a roster in 2026-2027. Hutson's contract alone is not going to affect their ability to pay Evans, they'd need to spend like crazy on Free Agents/Trades as well.

If we are sure Beck will be ready than trade him if we get offered a good price.
Any contender looking for a playoff rental 3rd line C ,Evan would be a great place to start.

I truly believe this is Evans prime YR.

So 4th line C on HABS is 3C on contender?

We have Army and Dvorak gone so there's 7.8 mil saved.
If one of Savard or Matheson gets moved there's another 3-4 mil freed up.
That's 10 mil and we are sitting at 7 mil under the cap. We have plenty of space.
