  • Xenforo Cloud upgraded our forum to XenForo version 2.3.4. This update has created styling issues to our current templates, this is just a temporary look. We will continue to work on clearing up these issues for the next few days and restore the site to it's more familiar look, but please report any other issues you may experience so we can look into. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Just looking at the stat sheet and nothing else, he doesn't have those 5+ game stretches where he's doing absolutely nothing so far. Points have been pretty consistent all year. But he's on the PK, forechecks hard every shift, and is much better along the boards. He's been inconsistent throughout his career but I would never call him "uncommitted". I totally understand why he wanted to be traded last year.

Coaching change has been nothing but great for him. He's playing with that same energy he had in his first few years. Hope it's here to stay, he's a gamer and an important guy in the room.

This.

The biggest difference I've noticed is the effort. He's always had the skill, but there were many long stretches where he was floating around. With Montgomery, Jake is playing hard every game.

I'm sure Playing with Bergeron and Marchand has helped with his level of effort. You can't take off any shifts when playing with those two.

I really think this kid has to be in the 7th Player Award discussion.
It’s probably his to lose. It started off as Lindholm but he’s cooled down. Could go Ullmark but the nature of the award doesn’t really scream “give it to the goalie”

If I got a vote it would be Foligno without a second thought.
In the true spirit of the award, it’s possible he gets it too. Wasn’t there some story about how Foligno helped Debrusk get back on track after the Covid season? I wonder if having that bigger purpose energized Foligno. It’s like they both needed each other. Good stuff.

Honestly, Sweeney staying patient AND getting a contract extension done for relatively cheap money is up there with his best moves as a GM.

Easily could've traded him for a pick and been done with it.

He didn't, and the team is benefitting greatly as a result.

At this point in the season there is no other person that's even close. Jake was already playing good hockey in the second part of last season. Over the moon that he's having a great season, but it's not all that surprising IMO. Not a fan of giving the 7th player award to a first-liner.

Foligno not only is playing exceptional hockey for the role he has been given by Monty, but by all indications is providing crucial leadership in the room that is helping other players be successful.

That is taking nothing away from Jake. His turnaround that started last season is a tribute to his character, skill, and support of his teammates.

Is it Foligno or is it Ullmark? I won't believe anyone who says they expected anything like this out of either. It'll be a fun race for it. An interesting one for sure....

Swayman won it last year. Rask has won it, Thomas won it twice and Raycroft won it as well. Crazy enough from 2003-2007 a goalie won every year. Interestingly enough 25% of the previous winners over the last 20 years were goalies.

If one were to pen a hypothetical story about the best possible outcome while still in that miserable period last year, this might be precisely what it looked like
