There used to be a magnet on my grandmothers fridge, 30 years ago, that said something along the lines of

“Sometimes the person who succeeds isn’t the strongest, but the one who thinks he can”

And to think we almost shipped this kid out because he can't grind on the 3rd line. Alotta skill guys in the league these days. Put them in the position to succeed, aka first line. Not everyone can play up and down the lineup anymore.

To think many fans dogged this kid and ragged on him for not just his hockey play, but what his family has said or the way he looked last year. To think someone on here said he wouldn't even make it in Europe. (Yeah, a legit poster said that one). Or that he should be shipped out for a bag of pucks etc.

I'm proud of him. He's overcome his anxiety and depression. He looks good. He looks in great shape. Since the 2nd half of last season, he's been a beast. And he's continuing to show it. I'm glad Sweeney didn't trade him. And I'm glad the kid is still here. He's rejuvenated his career. And it's great to see.

Have any of the 32 mediocre underperforming centers Donny G wanted to trade him for outperformed him? Lol

Funny what a year does. Couldn’t Waite to trade him now he is a key part of our future and I worry about what happens in 2 years.

btw I don't want to start a whole 2015 draft argument, and I'm absolutely not trying to say they didn't f*** it up, but Jake is now 10th from that draft year in career goals and 18th in points and points per game. (Carlo 38th in points of all things, go figure).

this season Jake & Zacha are 15th and 17 in scoring from the 2015 draft class.

All things considered, while I still wish they'd hit a grand slam in that draft, it has turned out to be maybe a solid double with an RBI (getting Zacha for free helped recoup some of their losses IMO).

You know everything in a season is going right when even the 2015 draft starts to look not so bad lol.

Crazy how this thread is silent this year. Can't talk crap about him because he's playing well and showing he's not a "bust" or a "loser".

I am SO glad he's here. That they had faith in him. The vibe is infectious. Bergy loves him. And that days it all.

100th goal tonight. Keep it going JDB!

Lots of credit to Jake. To overcome what he has been through and the state of mind he was in before the midpoint of last season speaks volumes about his maturation and character. I think the way the team embraced him even after he publicly requested a trade says a lot about the quality of human beings on the Bs as well. Everything is working out quite nicely for both Jake and the team.

Absolutely!

It says a lot about this team and the leadership it has. It's special.

Way to go Jake. Hard work and positive attitude kills naysayers and negative Nancy’s. A huge part of the reason the Bruins are winning games and having fun doing it. Awesome teammate. Jake is so exciting and fun to watch. Can’t wait to see him hoist the cup one day (wearing the spokes B of course)!!

I just can not recognize the kid. His body language is TOTALLY different, his work ethic is at another level. Playing with 37 and 63 just change that kid for the best. I wanted him out, thought he was a distraction to the club but I was wrong, I was wrong on his trade demand because in a different environnement he is proving me being a very good hockey player and being liked by his teammate.

I'll admit when I'm wrong. You were right on this one. It was Bruce's system and headgames f***ing with his development.

Though I always did argue that we'd probably end up trading him to Edmonton or somewhere and he'd instantly turn into a 30 goal scorer in better surroundings and a system suited to his style. So I'll take credit being half-right. I think I just never viewed Bruce being fired as a legitimate possibility, much less them finding a forward-thinking coach like Monty to take the reins. I assumed they'd do a typical Bruins thing and either keep status quo or if they did make a change they'd go to Jay Leach or someone with ties to the franchise. Figured Jake was just a square peg in a round hole, but Sweeney rightly saw more value in his pegs than he did in his board of holes and changed the structure to match the parts instead of vice-versa.

That's big of you. I can't say the same for others but I will say, it's not that I wanted to be "right". I just clearly saw what was happening and just the vitriol spewed his way, some not even his fault or warranted was...insane. Conspiracy theories. Lies thrown at that the team hates him.

I'm glad the boys pulled together. Like Fenway said, Bergy was NOT happy with Bruce either. And Bergy loves everyone. We saw this on the bench last night. From day 1 of the trade request, the boys had his back. Bruce gone, you can see the relief in these players. And Bergy being so happy for Jake last night says it all.

I now chuckle at the statement by someone that Jake wouldn't even make it overseas 🤣
I'm just glad the organization and players stuck by him.

Jake is on pace for his best PPG season and his 2nd best GPG season.

But the biggest difference to me is his passing. He's been a far better passer this year than I've ever seen before from him.

I know others are admiring his work ethic right now, but honestly, I felt like that was just a carry over from last year.

I think he is enjoying the new coach and is learning a lot from playing with Bergeron and Marchand and all of that is helping him to be a more mature player.

have a feeling we are about to see a BIG night from him

Been really hoping for this all day.

Yeah, I’ll eat some crow on DeBrusk.

I always knew he was talented and I’m not sure I ever advocated trading him, but I was starting to think he didn’t have it in him to show up every night.

In another month or two, it will pretty much be one calendar year of him proving me wrong.

No doubt he’s thriving under Montogomery right now, but I think even more credit is owed to him directly. He turned his game around last year seemingly on his own, before any coaching changes, and hasn’t looked back.

31 goals last 67 games and +a zillion

Good for Cassidy - and amazing/shocking he said he was wrong on DeBrusk

Can only make Cassidy a better coach if he believes this

Is there a clip of this somewhere?
