Please get off the Lysell, Merkulov train, neither of them is ready for heavy duty NHL play, Poitras will be back and he is under size that is enough for this year. Everyone that wants to see those two play, should take a trip to Providence..........
Have to admit, I don't see providence at all. But according to a guy that does its time for Merkulov.

Bruins have already delivered on the entertainment factor this year. Anyone who truly thought we’d be in this spot was either whistling past the graveyard or just doesn’t know hockey.

And kudos to the Bruins. I’ve enjoyed it and see some good things coming out of it.

But management (and I PRAY…. Ownership) knows this team is not a Cup threat. Our only hope is our Goalies steal 16 games but we’ve ridden them hard and put them away wet way more than is wise already. Just to make the playoffs at this rate is going to require they continue to face shit tons of pucks the rest of the way.

So even if we are sitting in 8, make the trades that make sense. One being offload JDB before we have to foot his UFA bill which I very much doubt he will be worth in the long run.

People are crazy if they want to even think about resigning this guy. Our wings suck and his value is so low that I guess ride out the deal and see if he can pop in a few in the playoffs but trading him a few weeks ago for a similar winger would have been the best option.

This team desperately needs a trade to shake things up.

Merkulov looked almost ready at training camp and has been picking up his play lately. He's doing what the coaching staff asked of him to do, he's playing a complete two-way game, and he scored 8G-6A in the last 7 games. He looks ready. Lysell will definitely need more time if he's not traded.
We are desperate for scoring why would you trade Lysell before giving him a 5-10 game look?

Some guys are better in the NHL than AHL.

No clue what they are waiting for we have gotten pretty good returns from Poitras Lohrei and Beecher. Why not the try the two guys who actually have second line NHL skill?

Have always been a big fan of Jakes ,his greatest asset is his speed being able to go wide and taking it to the net,he isn’t using it ,not sure what’s going on with him,I think it’s time to move him ,unfortunately his worth is probably greately diminished.

I’d give merkulov a couple games and sit Debrusk for at least one. Debrusk is bringing nothing offensively right now and the Bs can find someone else to fill in on the PK.

This team has been so void of consistent offense lately that they need to start sending a message before it gets any worse. I think you start with sending a message to Debrusk.

How is Jake doing on the PK? If he's not contributing there, he should sit for a couple games and see what Lysell or Merkulov can come up with.

Last I looked he was 1st amongst all forwards in the NHL at goals allowed per minute on the PK. Its a team effort, I’m not saying he is the leagues best PK guy or anything, but he certainly has been seeing results.

Just seems like carrots have worked better than sticks with DeBrusk in the past.

You’d think a lucrative long term contract would be enough of a carrot for him to perform this year.

The only thing that’s worked in the past is having Debrusk with elite level centers. He’s been void of offense when not paired with krejci or Bergeron.

When he’s not with someone of those guys caliber he’s been invisible.

Also we’ve seen guys like Danton heinen put up similar production playing with Marchand and bergeron(47 points for DH to 50 for Debrusk).

I think using the world “elite” puts a too much weight on it. He scored 27 in 60 odd games with Krejci and guys like Backes/Spooner/Kuhlman. A lot of top six guys need other top six guys to produce. Marchand only has three more points than DeBrusk away from the powerplay. They lost three top six quality guys this offseason.

Exactly! Beecher has been great and I can't remember anyone who watches Providence say anything positive about him other than his speed. Steen and Lauko have been good also. It's not our bottom two lines that under deliver most nights and we are desperately missing Forbort even though many on here think otherwise!

Marchand is also turning 36 years old in a little over 2 months. Are we really comparing a guy that is on the downside of his career to a player that is suppose to be in his prime?

I swear there’s more excuses for Debrusks poor play than any player I can remember in the past 10-15 years.

This is fair about Bruins so I agree here.Far as Debrusk goes he better be traded if no name on new deal. Bruins cannot afford to let any assets walk away as a UFA.

Its a puzzle, and they don't have all the right pieces. Hoping a corner piece fits in the middle, and vice versa, doesn't work. My hope is they get the correct pieces they need.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Yeah, something’s going on with this kid. He’s shown more enthusiasm in interviews, than he has on the ice lately. What we seen tonight is something I’d expect out of him in a celebrity shinny game. Just seems like fake effort, trying to get away with one and not a whole lot of will or want. Cannot create his own offense at all, and you’d think he’d be valuable 3 on 3 with his speed, but he’s just not strong on the puck and doesn’t bear down when it comes to 1 v 1 battles. I understand he’s never going to throw a hit, unless it’s a late love tap, connecting with more of the boards but at least be strong on your stick. His best value might be in the shootout right now and I’m not sure how many more times he can get away with that flip shot floater against the grain. His last 5 hole attempt was weak …. Would’ve liked to see that elevated if it’s a straight shot. Have to make a move to open up the goaltenders legs if you’re going to slide it on the ice, unless you’re a glorified sniper in which he’s not.
Great Post.. Welcome!!

Not many, just a few "experts."

Oh I don’t think I am making excuses just trying to level set on reality. He has had 2nd liner production with 2nd liner TOI his career. That production has been inconsistent, but has averaged out to being a 25 goals per 82 games kind of player. Earlier in his career, when he wasn’t scoring he was bringing nothing. Now when he isn’t scoring that has improved. But he does have to start scoring.

But given his production so far, it’s fair to ask if he can ever be the 3rd or 4th best offensive player on a good team and be paid accordingly. He was always the 5th best offensive player on the team and as high as 2nd best goal scorer last year and as low as 4th best goal scorer during the perfection line years. He is not cutting it for the role they need him to be in this year. Does that mean he sucks or just that he isn’t being slotted properly? I tend to think it’s the latter and just dumping him adds another hole to fill. Now, it’s fair to say that you are just fed up with the inconsistency in putting the puck in the net and you want to replace him with someone more consistent. I can buy that. But who and for what cost when you have to many other holes to fill?

Keep him where are you gonna find a 26 year old who can potentially pop 30 goals. Hes down
right now but not out. I say hold and dont panic. Hopefully he catches fire after break and blows the door in playoffs.

Sorry, cannot agree.

They don't produce, they rarely spend time in the offensive zone. Whoever is playing with them on the backend is in for some long, hard shifts. Beecher (-6) and Lauko (-5) have the worst +/- of all forward. Steen has one point in 19 games and I think it was while playing on a different line.

The issue is he never plays 82. So providing his per 82 game stats is useless for a player who averages 67 games a year over his career.

At some points of his career he has been a 2nd liner, but on average it’s a fringe 2nd/3rd liner in reality.

Heading into this season he’s averaged per season

67 games / 20 goals / 19 assists / 39 points

I haven’t even been advocating to move on from him. I want him to do better. I’ve been more pushing back against the people who have been saying $5.5m+ a year.

I was even advocating for $5m a year earlier in the year. Now I’m not even sure if I want him at anything over $4m AAV.
