That 2nd/3rd goal (whichever one it was) tonight wasn’t really his fault, mix of bad luck and Tony being in no mans land

But Trouba’s lack of skating ability this season is a bit concerning. Hoping it’s just dealing with COVID and lack of training camp

I actually don't have too many problems with Trouba right now. Sure the shooting pucks into opponents shins or missing the net by a country mile has been frustrating, as has the occasional brainfart but overall he's been fine. The lack of mobility has been a problem since he got here, especially when he has to pivot which I did not expect. Is he worth his contract? No, but there's nothing that can be done about that now.

Mantis has been carrying him and making him look not abysmal. I like the chemistry the two have developed. I hope it becomes a long term thing.

I said it many times not happy about his salary 8 mil cap hit & contract with NMC $ until 25/26 season. UFA 26/27 season.

I see two guys regularly playing like 3rd pair defenseman. I’m not ready to start showering Trouba with praise because he’s strung together two games of “sound” hockey. Less than a week ago he was feeding Jack Hughes breakaways on a silver pattern.

The scary thing is people keep mentioning Trouba “redeeming” himself, like there’s some level we haven’t seen yet. He was a middle pairing defenseman even before he left Winnipeg.

The bottom line is both of their play as Rangers was/has been garbage. It just isn’t convenient for people to admit because we’ve got many more years of this.

Jets fan coming in peace. I really liked Trouba when he was a Jet. Just dropped in to seeRangers fans take on his play this year, haven't seen any of their games yet.

Trouba was a #1 RD last few years with Wpg and he played very well I thought. Buff was the #1b RD so they ran those pairings like that. I thought Trouba and Morrissey were a very good top pair and was pissed when he got traded.

Anyway I know he has it in him just not sure what the situation is there.

Cheers, be well

Slapshot's aren't dead at even strength.

The issues is most coaches demand righty's play right and lefty's play left..even off faceoffs.

It's dumb.

Defenseman should switch sides to open up for the 1 time blast from the point

Moving the puck side to side opens the lane for the shot.

Troubas got a bomb and keeps it low.

He should play ld on faceoffs.

But I think that way on all offensive zone faceoffs.

You can switch pretty easily if the play breaks down and heads the other way.

This reminds me of the Staal OT winner against WSH in the 2012 play offs

Trouba has been more than fine this year.

Haters are going to hate. He's made some awful plays with the puck on his stick, but to be honest so have the rest of our defensemen except for Fox because he is God.

Trouba isn't the solution but he certainly hasn't been the problem either. I really like the Lindgren-Trouba pairing to be honest.

I haven't minded his game so far this season. Wasn't good last night though. But it's a hard contract to love for a defensive defenseman if the PP is better when he's nowhere near it and overall the team isn't very good yet.

He doesn't have to be the solution. We already have the solution, he wears #23.

I didn't hate him with Lindgren either. I don't really care how the top 4 is paired up at this point, pretty much any combo works for me.

Though I reallllllyyy want to see what 79-23 looks like for more than a shift or two.

Yeah, I think he has been good when paired with Miller. And that's been the thing with him, finding the right partner. Lindgren and Miller both work, for different reasons, but I think he's pretty solid out there defensively. Something is still off about his offensive game, though.

The contract will always be "the thing" though. He's going to be like post-2015 Lundqvist where he's a very good player but a lot of people will always hate on him because he's paid elite money and doesn't perform at an elite level.

Assuming Lundkvist makes the team and DeAngelo is traded, I would be interested in this:

Miller-Fox
Lindgren-Lundkvist
Jones/Robertson-Trouba

It's exciting to see these kids breaking out in the following years.

Im fine with Trouba, i do think he needs some shooting targets to hit though, never so many missed shots, if he hit the net with that canon he'd be dangerous.

I know he has always liked to shoot the puck a lot but yeah he kinda needs to dial it back and pick his spots better

maybe he should aim at the defender? In all likelihood he would miss and hit the net.

He hasn't been playing to his former Jet level, but he hasn't been THAT bad thus far.

Like most of the team he has a new linemate or partner he is still getting used to, which is part of the problem. There is literally no semblance of certainty.

Let's not forget that his partner, as well as he is playing - still has a grand total of 6 NHL games under his belt. The very fact he has a rookie next to him is part of the issue. That is definitely a factor whether fans want to acknowledge it or not.

Trouba had an adjustment period in his first year. He looked better in the bubble. It's still early though I understand the frustrations given his contract, for sure.

The expectations for almost all of the high paid vets are not being met right now, not to mention he is part of the leadership group now - so yes the blame needs to be spread around.

It would be hard to deny that Trouba hasn't been consistently good. Notice I said good, because I haven't detected any "great" in his game.
In a vacuum, this would be fine, but we aren't operating in a vacuum. The enormous gap between his salary and value will do nothing but hurt the organizations ability to manipulate the roster.
I hope, for the fans sake, that he has more to his game than what we have seen to date, but I would be lying if I thought this were true.

Trouba was a player the Rangers seemingly always liked. Not sure what that says about their player evaluation skills. If they wanted a RD who is decent at some stuff yet does nothing particularly well there had to be a better way than spending the cap they are on him. Sure that player may have been older, or not quite as decent at stuff yet he also would have cost far less and been signed for way shorter.

You left out my favorite prospect- Schneider Think Lundqist might end up playing the left side because of him being here

What was he doing on the Buff PP goal? Nice seam pass by Buffalo broke our PK down to a 2 on 1 downlow with the puck carrier at a subpar angle and not moving. Trouba didn't really recognize it. He needs to stay calm and keep his stick in the passing lane. Instead and he goes down on a knee to block the shot with his stick on the wrong side, as if he had support behind him which he did not. Terrible position to block the pass. I facepalmed so hard. Can't give up such easy goals, they're backbreaking.

PK looked much better yesterday though until that play.
