This is a 6am wake up call that Drury is tired of letting the players run/control the teams roster and on-ice performance. Using the waive system as a get out of jail card for 2 players given modified contracts will certainly open some eyes around the league and the locker room. But at the end of the day, you can't be an organization that just lets players get paid and then under-perform until their contract expires.

Playing on a broken ankle. It has been brought up before in the offseason but not a lot of guys are playing through what Trouba was in the playoffs last year.

Curious how this shakes out, feel for the guy. Had a chance to go back to the Detroit area this summer, looks like he has less control now.
Is he still playing on a broken ankle? Because he's been just as bad this season.

Montreal would make a lot of sense because we do need to shore up the right side. For sure the cap hit is high, but it's only for one more year, and we do have a lot of cap coming off the books at the end of the year, though Slaf's contract kicks in.

I don't think we can take on the full salary without moving someone, but I think we'd just need to move someone like Armia and not one of the higher salaries like Gally or Dvorak.

As long as the cost isn't high, or free better yet, they should do it IF Gorton/Hughes feel he's a good fit and obviously Trouba would want to play here.
Well, I don't know about hm shoring up your right side, but I will tell you that as soon as he gets there, your left side is going to look amazing in comparison.

I think he'll be aight. He makes 8M a year.

His legacy among Ranger fans will be sort of weird. We liked the hits and that element he brought, but his play on the ice simply wasn't good enough, esp considering his reputation and what he was paid.

He was a reason why those teams did not get over the hump.

Among the teams I’ve heard have talked to the NYR about Jacob Trouba include Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo, Columbus. We’ll see what happens today, but Trouba has known for some time this was a strong possibility. Crazy to see it go down this way.

2030 isn't that far away
When you go to puck pedia, it teases you by having the 2026-2027 season highlighted.

Still pisses me off. Set aside the fact that Trouba's been mostly awful for us and his salary is an albatross on our cap, the f***er essentially rewrote his contract and throw a hissy fit and say "no, I won't report there." f*** you. You shitstain. I know you can't tell the future and you didn't anticipate your wife being a resident for an extra year, but that's your problem, not ours. This is a business. Ordinary people get fired and let go all the time due to "business reasons" or hell, for no reason at all and they don't have the luxury of having a big bank account to rely on through hard times. But this 8M a year f***head thinks he's bigger than the organization he works for and whined and bitched and took his ball and went home. What an asshole. Some captain. Worst captain since...Drury.

Like think of it in our day-to-day lives. Imagine the CEO of the company you work for says, "hey, we're drastically downsizing here, but we're opening another branch in many other states. We'd love for you to relocate there. You'd keep your lofty salary as is and everything." You can either say, "I love it here, but I understand it's a business so I'll relocate. Thanks for the accommodation" or "okay, well thank you for the opportunity, but I'd like to stay in this city as my family is here so I will just go look for another job." You don't pull a Hulk Hogan and say "that doesn't work for me, brother."
He took less money for the security of an NTC.

What a laughably stupid post this is. You want to use a real life example? Your boss tells you that to avoid future downsizing, your salary will be $25k less per year in exchange for complete job security during the duration of your time there. You agree, and then 4 years later he says "pack your shit, f*** your family, go to Columbus f***in' Ohio".

This is not at all comparable because Trouba did have a full NMC (which would have prevented this) which changed to a limited NTC on July 1. That is Trouba and his agents fault because if he did not want to go on waivers, they should have pushed for a NMC throughout the contract and maybe taken less money to get that right. There's a reason why NMC are highly sought after and it's because being put on waivers and/or sent down is a real possibility. The Rangers are within their rights contractually to do what they're doing based on what was agreed upon and in my opinion, they've been more than accommodating given Trouba was quietly putting it out there into the world that he wouldn't be thrilled going to teams that weren't covered by his trade protection either which basically turned it into a de facto full NTC over the summer.

Why is it assumed that it's a trade or him being waived? It could be that he sucks and is being healthy scratched to send a message.

I don’t know why this is being viewed as a huge surprise or a crazy move by Drury. When Trouba blocked the deal in the summer publicly the assumption was this was the next move if things didn’t change. They gave it some time and here we are. The team was always going to win the battle in the end. If he has a choice of locations you’d think the trade would make more sense than waivers.
