Is this guy okay?
He's never been worth his $11.whatever cap hit in the playoffsWeak response. His numbers are not spectacular but there’s nothing to be ashamed of, he won many series including the sweep of the record breaking Tampa team
So in a scenario like Frank outlines here where a deal is agreed to with Team X, then Trouba is placed on waivers so Team X can claim him, isn't there a risk that someone claims Trouba before Team X? Would this all be conditional?
Ignore "No one is claiming his contract for free" excuses.
He has a modified NTC. They did it with Goodrow. The NHLPA can't do anything about it until the next CBA negotiations/agreement, should they even want to get involved. It might be a scummy work-around move regardless if it's a business decision, but it's not creating any involvement from the NHLPA right now.Putting him on waivers to complete a trade would probably trigger a grievance from the NHLPA as it circumvents his NTC. So there's probably no "deal" around waiving him. I'm sure Drury would be well aware that teams would claim him. So the threat to Trouba is basically "pick your destination from these options, or roll the dice and see what happens."
Wouldn’t that mean forfeiture of his salary? I’m sure the NYR would be ok with that.I can't find it off-hand (because when I search on Google, every article seems to be from the last few hours or from November), but I did find this note from Uncle Larry:
"There is no guarantee that Trouba would accept a trade even to a club on his approved list if that means leaving his wife and nine-month-old (as of training camp) behind.”
Stan Fischler wasn’t OK in 1993.Is this guy okay?
Yes. That was blown out of proportion with nothing really backing it other than Larry posting a thought.Wouldn’t that mean forfeiture of his salary? I’m sure the NYR would be ok with that.
Some players have pride and don't want to play in the AHL, ride a bus, travel from the city and still not be home enough. The waivers thing feels like a pretty empty threat. Who’s gonna claim him at his full salary/cap hit?

... ... ... the san jose sharks are proud to select, with their 3rd waiver priority, from the new york rangers of the national hockey league, Jacob Trouba. The waivers thing feels like a pretty empty threat. Who’s gonna claim him at his full salary/cap hit?
So you were just stating the obvious? The whole point in waiving him is to not have him on the roster, and/or to agree to a trade. We already know this. The poster you responded to is referring to NYR knowing a team is going to claim him but then another team does.No they did not do that with Goodrow. They put him on waivers and SJ claimed him. That was the end of it. In my example I was stating that the Rangers couldn't make a trade with a team in which putting Trouba on waivers for a claim was part of it.
Rangers waive Trouba. Columns claims him even though he had them on his NTC. Perfectly fine.
Rangers waive Trouba. Columbus claims him. Rangers and Columbus make a trade to offset the salary with Gudbranson or something. Alarm bells go off.
See the difference?
The LA Kings could claim him, and then he'd have to play in stinky crumby beautiful sexy California. The waivers thing feels like a pretty empty threat. Who’s gonna claim him at his full salary/cap hit?
Yep. I think it was Freidman who said in the summer that especially the PA but the league as well were keeping a very close eye on any future deals between NYR and SJS because of exactly this with the Goodrow situation.Putting him on waivers to complete a trade would probably trigger a grievance from the NHLPA as it circumvents his NTC. Yea for a 90 year old he seems to be doing pretty good, really impressive for an 89 year old really.Stan Fischler wasn’t OK in 1993.
Now he’s 92 years old. He’s actually probably more coherent relative to 92 year olds now than he was relative to 61 year olds then … he’s still 91.
Garry is a little old don’t you think?Something around Gally for trouba?
And the rangers will be exercising their right if he gets waivedHe's exercising the rights in his contract. He made it pretty clear even when he was in Winnipeg that he only wanted NY. Not his fault the Rags can't keep a commitment
