I could easily see Trouba regaining some form on a new team and being a value add at next years deadline. Especially at a reduced rate.

He's been objectively bad the last year or so in NY, but I don't think it's representative of all he has left to give. As evidenced by insiders saying the Rangers likely won't have to pay to move him as a cap dump.
He might. I think the Sharks are looking at him as though he'd be a pretty good bet to provide some value to them in their rebuild. It may be a combination of a player like him helping to mold the team's new identity in the Celebrini era and the veteran physical presence defenseman type tend to have trade value in this league and they can capitalize on that while seeing if that veteran can help Celebrini and Smith along better than what they have now.
you seem confident the sharks would claim trouba, can i ask why fabbro wasnt claimed? Just curious since i thought fabbro to the sharks was a lock haha
It would only be a guess but I think it's a combination of not exactly knowing what Fabbro's intentions are at that time combined with recently acquiring Liljegren, having guys like Ceci and Rutta who nobody will trade for now but could at the deadline, having to offer Fabbro to other teams that claimed him if at the deadline they wanted to try and get value out of a Fabbro trade with him being a rental, and how all that fits with a team trying to compete in the early stages of their rebuild.

I think Trouba is simply valued higher around the league to make it worth the claim because next year is when the Sharks gain a retention slot and Trouba at 4 mil to a playoff contender is likely to be worth something to them and I think they feel Trouba would assist their desire to make the team better as Celebrini and Smith develop.

There's not some "end all be all" situation to this where he needs to be waived today or else.

Him not being on waivers today is that the Rangers believe a trade is possible, if not likely, at some point soon. If they can't complete a trade, they'll put him on waivers another day. Makes no difference whether that'd be today or like Wednesday.

I would like trouba in Anaheim, even this version. We badly need physicality (yes, even the reckless kind) on our backend. I think he would fare a little better in the west as well.

When was the last time a captain was put on waivers?

Never

This is embarrassing for sure

Why would even they waive him? Less than 1% chance a team claims him and as bad as he is, they'd still be a stuck with a huge cap hit if he goes to the AHL
You have too much faith in NHL GMs. The stupidity of various NHL GMs should never be underestimated. I bet a team out there would pick him up on waivers.

Rangers are an original 6 team and play in Maddison square garden. They’ll always be appealing.

I’m unaware of the Goodrow situation. What happened ?

The Goodrow situation was the exact same thing. They told him they wanted to move him, he said no, and they put him on waivers knowing the Sharks would claim him.

Sounds like the Trouba situation is a bit nore clear, as Goodrow didn't fully understand it was trade or waivers, but overall same premise.

Panarin was the worst thing to happen to the rebuild. Made the team think they were better than they actually were. Players will always want to come to NY.

Goodrow blocked a trade with his NTC. So the Rangers put him on waivers and he was claimed.

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong or provide additional details, but basically Goodrow had some form of no trade (15 team, maybe?) and the belief was that the Sharks were on that no trade list. But Goodrow didn't have a no move, so he could be put on waivers. So basically Drury just dumped him on waivers for San Jose to pick up.
