I don't see him becoming much of a full time player. He will be back to Bellevile when we start getting healthier.....

JBD should be here and playing over Hamonic on most nights even when we have everyone, but due to our cap crunch will likely be sent to Belleville.

Outside of that brutal read on the 1st goal and a few boneheaded passes, he wasn't bad, to my eye at least.

I agree he should probably be the 3rd pair RD, spelling Hamonic. A good 7th D for now.

I find he is out-muscled on nearly every play. If he could gain some strength, he would be a serviceable 5-7 D for sure.

I think he'll eventually become a reliable above average bottom pairing option. Might be a couple years away though.

I think he's looking capable of being a 3rd pairing guy. Not that it means he's amazing, cuz those kind of players make lots of mistakes and lose battles, especially when their minutes are elevated, but he looks to be playing with some confidence finally.

Now that he looks somewhat competent he will probably be claimed when we get and send him down

Hamonic is getting destroyed out there. I'd have this when Chabot & Brannstrom come back :

Sanderson - Chabot
Chychrun - JBD
Brannstrom - Zub

Unless you are playing each pair 20 min, you have Zub on the wrong line

Special teams and game situations is what makes a difference.

You roll the 3 pairs equally at ES, Sanderson, Chychrun and Chabot get a lot of PP time, Zub and Sanderson get a lot of PK time

You need a goal? You Sanderson, Chychrun and/or Chabot out there. You defend a lead? You have Zub out there

Still...Zub has to be top 4, at minimum.

I hear and respect your train of thought, but I still think Zub has to be slotted too 4 and adjust to situations from there

He'd be #4 in TOI/GP in my scenario after Chychrun, Chabot and Sanderson

Like I said, have to take in consideration all the special teams TOI and the various game situations. Zub would be on the ice late in games to protect a lead or in various defensive face-offs depending on context

Sanderson - Zub is non-negotiable IMO. They are a great shutdown pair that moves the puck really well and provides offence.

Ok but how would you do for the other pairs then?

Chychrun Chabot by default
Brannstrom - Hamonic

How would that work?

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Brannstrom
Chychrun - Hamonic/JBD

If you look at xGF/60, Chychrun-Hamonic and Sanderson-Chabot have been the best by far... but we're dealing with small sample sizes here. If you look at last year, Chabot-Brannstrom had very high xGF/60 too

Very funny stat, among all NHL pairings that have played at least 45 ES mins together, Chychrun-Hamonic has the highest xGF/60 and GF/60 in the league lol

Yeah digging into advanced stats (but small sample size), it seems our best set up would be :

Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - Brannstrom
Chychrun - Hamonic

Dorion is not there anymore so why not Brannstrom on RD? But DJ might also be part of that decision... Staios should just overrule it! lol

Sanderson Zub - shutdown pair
Chychrun- Chabot
Brannstrom- Hamonic

ok but that's what you said in the previous post so I already know. I was asking a different question but ok
