who predicted us picking him at all lol??
When Jersey used the pick ahead of us to take Holtz, a friend texted "Sabres have their choice of Rossi or Perfetti!" I texted back (somewhat sarcastically) "So watch them take Quinn, LOL." I was pretty shocked (and a little disappointed) when they actually picked him, but very happy now.

Believe it or not, but I actually did. Not sure it was at this forum but I know I predicted it amongst my friends. I watched some games online leading up to the draft and just thought he was dynamite.

I called it very early on in the draft thread, but only because I heard a rumor that Buffalo was one of the teams who loved him. Didn't hear that about anyone else. I didn't really predict it, just said "I have a feeling Buffalo picks him."

WAAAY to early to take a victory lap on this one. Hopefully that day will come.
No victory laps here, but he may very well be the most talented prospect Ive ever seen play for the Amerks, and Ive been watching them for nearly two decades. Vanek comes close, but that's on a pure goal scorer level- Quinn brings more than just goal scoring.

I love Quinn's playmaking ability and how he skates. I also love that he's got a fiesty streak too - he's very much a prototypical "good Canadian boy" in how he approaches people who f*** around with him or his linemates.

Not sure where you were for the draft, but would say like 90% were mad here that we picked Quinn over Rossi. Similar for Cozens over Zegras but not as high of a percentage.
And what's wrong with that? Everyone has their favorites. I wanted Rossi at the time, but I said no problem, Adams knows better. I also wanted Zegras in the 2019 draft.

vanek always seemed a little to hesitant anywhere but right in front of the net. it was weird, because we all knew he could skate well, handle the puck with grace, and shoot pretty good too. i feel like his development peaked at like year 2 or 3 because he labeled himself as basically a net front specialist, then it was all down hill with injuries etc.

zegras seems like one of those players that is skilled and will put up points, but not do much more. the offense is valuable, yeah, but cozens is the complete package. over the course of their careers i bet zegras ends up with slightly better stats, but who cares. players like cozens help win you cups

And not for nothing, but Cozens has outshined the guy he was most often compared to in his draft year - Kirby Dach. Dach's taken steps back, somewhat because of injury, but certainly he hasn't been the player he was 3 years ago. In the meantime, Cozens has taken definite strides as a 2-way force. I still see a player reminiscent of Trevor Linden who is just going to control play at both ends of the ice. And of course his history with Quinn within Hockey Canada is also kind of fascinating. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Quinn slots in with the Krebs-Cozens duo if they continue to use that pair (who also have Nats history). Quinn as the high-end finisher there would be really interesting.

I didn't say it was bad, I just said who I wanted in the draft at the time, I bet not everyone or maybe not even many wanted Cozens on this board, I even remember that a little. Cups are good, but first we need to get into the playoffs. Now I see that we lack such talent as Zegras in attack, such creativity and skill, but also Cozens also looks very good, he just needs to become a more stable player and I think he will become one.

Now I have no problem choosing Cozens.

How similar is Connor Geekie to Kirby Dach?

He’s battled some injuries and illnesses in here too. It makes the season even more impressive imo. Hes had a number of starts and stops and he just keeps producing.

In his very brief call up (missed some call ups because of illness…got hurt in his second nhl game) he fired a number of shots at the net and I don’t think goalies ever saw one of them.

Just playing armchair psychologist here, but Cozens strikes me as a down to earth kid who just loves competing and hockey. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pick at the time, but I think Cozens will do everything in his power to improve, and he has enough talent to turn that into good things. He has enough workman drive where he knows it’ll require focused effort. Zegras is already awesome, he’ll likely be a ppg player for some time soon, but will he ever develop his defensive game like a Matthews did? Will he ever have that edge Cozens has? As to Dach, not sure on him, but the times I’ve watched he just doesn’t play with that fire Cozens has. If a dman tries squeezing one of em off along the boards Cozens will take the hit, Zegras will dangle, Dach will pull up. I’ll take Cozens’ style, personally, we have a lotta skill elsewhere but I think we needed that one dude who’s motor just won’t quit.

As to Quinn- we’re just keeping him down due to the 9 game thing, right? I don’t watch amerks but his numbers are insane and he looked more polished than Krebs in his time up, and I’m already ok with how Krebs has settled in.

I wanted Zegras over Cozens, and still do. I do like Cozens and think he can be a Staal-ish type 2C. By the time Quinn was drafted, I devolved into a "whatever this organization is trash" mindset and hardly paid any attention. I'm only paying attention to this team again since February. Quinn is definitely a great selection and anyone that was touting him pre-draft was spot-on. If Mittelstadt can get close to the player he can be...wow what a pair they would make.
