Jack Eichel is quietly becoming a top-5 player in the league

Aves are the only team I'd consider taking over Sabres for next 5 years (make it 10).

Maybe Tampa if they wake up, though a smaller window.

Could be a good bet, we will see what Dahlin becomes. I am mostly wondering if the depth pieces can develop into actual top 6/top 4 type players.

Lets see:

McDavid
Mackinnon
Ovechkin
Crosby
Kane

There is five FORWARDS (not even counting goalies and defenders) that are at this point clearly still “better” the Eichel.

He is having a breakout year and is playing fantastic. Not going to slag his accomplishments, but lets not get into absurd hyperbole here. He still has a lot left to accomplish before that “top-5” statement is even close to arguable. Won’t say he can’t get there eventually, but lets not overblow a strong start to the season.

Unfortunately for Jack I see him missing out this year based on the playoff rule. Still expecting Tampa to wake up and bump them

Edit: ah, another leaf fan. Shocking. The past number of posts all seem to be leaf fans. Strange

Nice ad hominem.

Didn’t even mention a Leaf on that list, or a Jet for that matter, which is the other team I cheer for. If you want to debate my actual argument please go ahead and do so. If you want to just continue to make snide remarks about other fanbases, well, I won’t take it as anything against Sabres fans in general; there are fools in every fanbase.

You're gonna have to explain what you mean when you use the word 'clearly' before anyone could even make a counterargument to your original statement. Clearly how? What is it that makes it such a 'clear' thing to you? Or is it just your opinion?

I mean obviously he isn't considered on those guys level overall, but he has been better than 3 of them this season. So it depends on what you mean by top 5. If it's for this season it isn't laughable whatsoever to have Jack in the top 3.

McDavid and Mack both have an absolutely elite player to play with while the 2nd best player on Eichel's team is a 7th round rookie (who has been bloody fantastic, don't get me wrong). Drai and Rantanen have both led the league in scoring for big stretches of the past 1.5 seasons. Jack has no one close to that caliber of player to play with and I think a lot of people forget about that when comparing him to McDavid, Mackinnon, Matthews, etc. These guys have other elite players to play with while Jack is far and away the best player on his team.

I mean the title does say becoming...not is.

Also, which goalie would you take over someone on pace for over 100 points after almost half the season?

Here you go:

As in Sidney Crosby, Nathan Mackinnon, Patrick Kane, Alex Ovechkin and Connor McDavid are all demonstrably better then Jack Eichel (and to be fair, pretty much everyone else in the league).

Tell me, who on that list would you argue Eichel is better then?

This year, Crosby, Kane and Ovechkin are not better than Eichel. McKinnon and Eichel are about equal

You're evaluating on past performance, not the present, if you say Eichel is not top 5 at the present time

How is Ovechkin a better player atm? His only claim would be goalscoring, and Eichel currently has two more goals.

Mackinnon was playing way better when he had to carry the guys like Donskoi, Calvert, Nieto and Burakovsky in the top line which is weird to say. At some point Donk and Bura were on pace to doubling their career production. Of course they won't since Mack have Rants and Landy back but somehow this line is having a rough time since being back together.

So IMO the linemates doesn't matter much for Mack same can be said for Eichel. Mack has proven that playing without Rants and Landy he can produce no matter who he's been stapled with.

Cause this is an Eichel thread, and there are several other threads (more recent ones) directly discussing the Sabres as a team.

Not that it's a big deal, just seems dumb.
This is the thread that I started so let me decide what to post here especially given the fact that Buffalo has a very close connection to Eichel.

You're allowed to do what you want of course. I'm just saying it makes little sense.

Bud, Eichel is the ONLY reason the Sabres have won half the games they've won this season. If you don't agree you should actually watch one their games. He's the best player on the ice for them and it's not even close. Not really a good place for this super insightful comment.

The point of the comment was exactly the opposite. Eichel just wastes his career there and should be looking for a trade ASAP.

You're not gonna get an argument from me that Sabres are joke of an organization. But that still doesn't explain the comment vs the topic of this thread
