Two parts to this. One, "cancel culture" is a dog whistle term, and using it only strengthens bigots. So, while I agree about the term, I absolutely disagree that Jack is bad at his job. He's an incredibly talented broadcaster. He's always prepared, adds a personality to the role, and his job is to describe the play for a Bruins fan's perspective.

So yea, everyone saying "cancel culture" is just telling the rest of us that they're a joke. Jack is good, though.

I think good at his job is subjective. The guy knows hockey, but stating things like, "Oshie better be out for the rest of the game" is detrimental to the broadcast. It paints a picture that injuries only matter if they are serious enough that player can no longer play, and that the marginal opportunity the Bruins had is more important than the player bleeding on the ice.

There are a lot of people who know hockey who could fill his job without being an asshole.

Or, and hear me out becuase this is kind of wild, we hold people to a standard when employees and if they don't maintain that standard we find someone who will.

Jack is a more talented PBP guy than any national broadcaster employed by NBC and better than several teams' PBP people. Objectively. It's subjective whether he's the best, but he's undeniably more talented than many. Being an asshole doesn't mean he's wrong. Oshie milked it, and it was a bad whistle. Yes he was hurt, but it was a bad whistle. Jack's job isn't to make you feel good. It's to be honest and give a telling of the game in real time. Something he does.
 
It's not something to be proud of and probably makes me look like a complete loser, but getting blocked by Jack Edwards on Twitter like seven years ago is still to this day one of the best things to ever happen to me.

We have a very different view on what good is.

I'll give Jack he isn't boring. The issue is it's in the same way a head on car crash isn't boring.

I think Bruins broadcasts will be better when he's gone, but I'm also not the target audience, so who cares what I think anyway.

The only thing that really bugs me with this guy that he goes overboard with wishing bodily harm to other people because its inconvenient to his team. I hate that the Leafs aren't allowed to have Joe Bowen our version on our broadcasts we have to be the even keel national broadcast. I think every team should be allowed a homer in the broadcast. Doesn't have to be both guys let there be a straight man but let the announcer be a fan of the team, they have so much more passion in the calls.
 
He’s probably the worst announcer in NHL. Never cared for his voice or his play calling.
But that clip there is horrendous. Total embarrassment. Surprised he didn’t get called out for that given today’s environment.

I’m sure his bosses are fine with his on air performance.
 
I don't mind him as much when he's entertaining, but when he goes into extreme homerism and whines about every call it becomes ridiculous and it's not enjoyable. Maybe they can have someone else sub in whenever the Bruins are losing to make it less obnoxious.

how many bruins fans on hf are new to hockey do you think? I realize this will be difficult for you, but take an educated guess! I’m going to say less than 1 percent and that’s being generous. Besides the fact you’re missing what most bruins fans saying about not being Jack fans, your attempt at slamming the fan base fell woefully short and I’m embarrassed for you. Mommie is calling and it’s dinner time, make sure you shut off the PlayStation before you come upstairs, you know she doesn’t like it when you leave it on all night.

its called being complicit, the so called "non Jack boston fans" whine about getting lumped in with Edwards lovers but Don't call them out. You make it sounds like most Bruins fans don't like him but I see more Boston fans who defend Edwards then dislike them. Is it so hard to call out people who defend a guy who promotes apposing players getting targeted and injured?
