Jack Edwards being Jack Edwards

"He’s entertaining" isn’t an excuse.

Don Cherry was "entertaining" as well, but the number of hockey players who suffered brain damage because of him is staggering. His commentary played a major role in popularizing the type of hits that the NHL is still struggling to take out of the game. As a coach, he played a part in the rise of fighting and enforcers back in the early 70’s then as a commentator he convinced people that it was part of the game, even though pre-1970 fights and hits were nothing like the stuff he advocated.

''Do you wanna see the afterlife? I'll take you there''

- Jack Edwards 2020

I know he gets a lot of hate, but I actually love Jack Edwards. Definitely the most entertaining colour commentator in the league.
He's entertaining because he's hilariously horrendously barfingly terrible.

He thinks Chara is so tough but Chara always falls down when he fights. And rarely throws actual punches. Guy should be a professional wrestler after his hockey career.
Chara's go to move is to sucker punch the opposition.
He would be perfect for wrestling.

Don Cherry had his issues but you are out to lunch on this one if you want hitting and fighting gone.

People always say this in defense of these ass-hat broadcasters like Edwards who think their job is to be an audio He-Man in defense of their club with idiotic shouting and boastful man-dawging.

You fail to perceive the difference between justified and rather obvious coverage of, and focus on, one's locally broadcast home club and being a one-sided moron.

I am an Oilers' fan. Never have I heard an Oilers' local broadcaster run down the Oilers' opponents after fights or big victories. Nor do the Canucks' broadcasters. Nor do the Flames' broadcasters (well, after the early-90s anyway). Nor do the Jets' broadcasters. If anything, they all go out of their way to be fair and considerate to the local teams' opponent, knowing that 95% of viewers are supporting the home team and thus there's a slippery slope there if they're not a little fair-minded.

Edwards cannot do this. Hence, he's a jack-ass.

And none of us know any of their names.

I grew up in New England and my whole life it seemed like a requirement to cover Boston sports is to be biased to a high level and pander to the crowd that mostly loves it. It's part of the job there and he obviously embraces it. I think all announcers should be biased to some extent, completely impartial is for nationally broadcast games. Watching your home team on your home channel should be entertainment for your fans and no one elses. Really creates a feeling of being part of the community.

So I never mind him. One of my favorite parts of visiting home is the sports, it's a community feel there that I love even if I don't love the teams. When he's screaming that nonsense thousands of people are yelling and screaming at the tv with him. That's the way there.

Telling Killorn to take his Harvard degree to the hospital? This guys a maniac. I’m also actually surprised he insulted Harvard as its a Boston area school with a decent hockey program.
Oh whatever.

Go watch Good Will Hunting. If you never have for some reason, seriously do.

Loud and obnoxious and annoying. The prototypical American from that part of their country.

The quicker he's off the air the better.

This board would love Jack if he called games for some random western team.

Maroon threw down Chara but he should have kept going and banged his face into the ice a couple of times.

Love Jack Edwards. Also find it funny reading the comments from fans that hate him lol. Wish he did Oilers games.

That moment when Jack realizes Bruins didn't beat anyone up after blathering on about hospitals and the afterlife.

He should start a show where he interviews players that didn't get killed in a fight. You could call it 'Crossing Over with Jack Edward's'.

I like what you're saying but I doubt he would admit he made a mistake [though I don't know him personally and am only speaking to his announcing].

Hilarious how easily Chara gets beefed to the ground, he likes to act tough but seldom backs it up.

He’s a good broadcaster, but sometimes I feel he says things you likely shouldn’t say on the air. If a fan watching at home said some of the things he has said, that’s fine, but he lets his emotions get the better of him and does cross the line sometimes in my opinion. He is entertaining though, I’ll give him that.

Jack Edwards is such a joke hehe, not a fan. But bruin fans seems to love him and he's getting other fans irritated by his homer way.. Thats quite funny! Have some fun, we need it in the game.

"You wanna see the afterlife, I'll take you there"

Immediately gets taken down

At the end of a monstrosity of a shift by Chara. Maroon only had one option there if he wanted a chance and took it, fresh off the bench I believe.

Edwards can be annoying but more often than not he is over the top praising players from the opposing team. He simply enjoys selling a big story.

During low event, trap games he will exclaim over and over what an entertaining game it is.

In his profession, they can either keep it simple and bland or try to keep it exciting and he does that latter, at times trapping himself into saying increasingly ridiculous things to keep the sentences flowing.

Much improved over Dale Arnold, who belongs with the intermission show.
