"He’s entertaining" isn’t an excuse.
Don Cherry was "entertaining" as well, but the number of hockey players who suffered brain damage because of him is staggering. His commentary played a major role in popularizing the type of hits that the NHL is still struggling to take out of the game. As a coach, he played a part in the rise of fighting and enforcers back in the early 70’s then as a commentator he convinced people that it was part of the game, even though pre-1970 fights and hits were nothing like the stuff he advocated.
