Keep in mind this is coming from a Habs fan...having met Jack Edwards, I will say there is a massive difference between Jack Edwards the person and Jack Edwards the On-Air Personality. Keep in mind who he has to pander to, a huge portion of that fan base is still attached to the mentality of the 70s and 80s which to be fair the organization just recently is doing away with.

His MO is to try and dodge the first punch, and then tackle his opponent before anyone lands anything. People always say this in defense of these ass-hat broadcasters like Edwards who think their job is to be an audio He-Man in defense of their club with idiotic shouting and boastful man-dawging.

You fail to perceive the difference between justified and rather obvious coverage of, and focus on, one's locally broadcast home club and being a one-sided moron.

I am an Oilers' fan. Never have I heard an Oilers' local broadcaster run down the Oilers' opponents after fights or big victories. Nor do the Canucks' broadcasters. Nor do the Flames' broadcasters (well, after the early-90s anyway). Nor do the Jets' broadcasters. If anything, they all go out of their way to be fair and considerate to the local teams' opponent, knowing that 95% of viewers are supporting the home team and thus there's a slippery slope there if they're not a little fair-minded.

Edwards cannot do this. Hence, he's a jack-ass.

born and raised here and my brothers and I still cringe at that one, we still laugh our a$ses off at it. He’s clearly nuts but even I mute him sometimes. What I find even funnier than Edwards is how many people here have their undies in bunch over a freaking broadcaster! New invention people, it’s called the mute button.

I read this whole comment in a completely obnoxious caricature of a Boston accent and it was funny so I did it again. "my brothers and I still..." "FREAKin' brawdcasta" "new invention PEOPLE..."

Maybe I have him mixed up with someone else, but wasn't he heavily critisised by Bruins fans when he first started for being too objective and dispassionate?

While his bias certainly gets on my nerves as a Habs fan I usually find the Bruins broadcasts to be highly entertaining and quite knowledgeable. Both Edwards and his partner (don't know the guy's name) sometimes provide some interesting nuggets of information regarding the x's and o's of the game. Am I off on this?
