I think Jack signs a team friendly deal for a variety of reasons.
1. He clearly loves playing in Toronto. He as mentioned how appreciative he is of the fanbase, and the organization for giving him his shot as a starting goalie.
2. He is probably the most team first personality on the team from what we witnessed in the "All or Nothing" Doc.
3. It took Jack parts of 7 Professional seasons before he made his mark as a regular backup in the NHL. Including stints in the ECHL. Now that may seem normal for most goalies, but that's not the case for highly regarded goaltending prospects like Jack being that he was the 11OA pick in 2010. To say it was a struggle to get to the league would be pretty accurate. He served as the backup in LA for parts of 2 seasons before coming to Toronto, where we have given him every opportunity to fill his draft day pedigree. He is our undisputed 1A in my opinion, and has spent time as our starter even. You can tell he finally feels himself in the cage. I am not sure he'd want to change that for the chance of making an extra couple sheets elsewhere.
4. Lastly, Jack is a man of the people. He knows that by signing a larger deal, it will directly impact who stays on the team going forward and/or who they bring in. He obviously understands the business, but I also think he understands what it takes to have a solid team dynamic
I just can't imagine Jack taking us to the cleaners TBH. He wants to be a Leaf, and we want him to be a Leaf. Just like Mo. A deal will get done
