Campbell has now played 69 (hot) NHL games.

Before that 202 AHL games, and 91 OHL games.

At what point do you reject this notion that "he only has 69 NHL starts"?

Jesus Carey Price had far more trust/leeway in his early career. Yes he lost the net to Halak, but then it was his net hereafter.

Aside from a couple of errors last night he's been really solid. He has good instincts, reflexes, eye sight, effort, etc.

All he does is win, and he does not look at all like an inexperienced NHL goalie.

Why do these media people spend their time counting NHL games before they can say "Yes. Campbell is good, and can start in net for the Toronto Maple Leafs"?

Price was drafted even higher in the 1st round than Campbell was. He also reached 69 GP far earlier in his NHL career. There's probably also an expectation for the Leafs to win a playoff round soon. The hope here should be that Campbell has won the spot and not that Andersen lost it. We won't know how this will transpire until it plays out in full. So far, so good with Campbell.

Funny thing is i knew he was going to still win for some reason. I hope he keeps playing and playing the puck. Something he can work on with his skaters. They need to take better ice to be available. Andersen just let a speedy opponents forward pick it off the boards every time. Play the puck jack

I usually think so too. The Calgary game last Saturday I thought he made some good plays with the puck. Last night was hopefully just an aberration.
That first goal wasn’t helped by Willy getting in his way. Why would Nylander not play the man there. Just saying

now post the names of the 1000+ that didnt :)

You can do the same thing for the inverse, by asking for a 1000+ names of those who didn't begin their career as a starter at 21, or those who didn't play until they were 40...But there are a number of good goalies who didn't catch fire until a little later in their career.

More's the point, look at Campbell's professional numbers. The only truly concerning patch of his career was in the '15-'16 season. There's a couple of games of anomalous production, but his professional numbers taken over his career are good to very good and absolutely encouraging for the Toronto Maple Leafs Faithful.

His pre-draft hype was justified. And at 29 he's not just leaning into a good NHL career, he's getting an opportunity on a very good team that doesn't have a prime Kari Lehtonen or Jonathan Quick in front of him to be it's bona fide starter.

Let's continue, name clubs that decide to unseat their proven starter for very good performances from their backup? It just doesn't happen absent repeat opportunities. It's not like people didn't see what Hasek was doing in Chicago. The conundrum was, you couldn't really choose him over Ed Belfour because A) That's hockey tradition and B) the sample size couldn't advise the move.

It's a different situation with Jack Campbell. And...if this guy has regained his form, regained his confidence and has gained the trust of the room and management, this is the same guy that won two gold medals and a world championship in the space of a year and was touted as the best prospect since Carey Price (albeit five years apart).

Not to harp but, there aren't a hundred Jack Campbells to be named in the kind of abstract you're citing. He was an exceptional talent, and he looks like THAT goalie. It appears that it took a "little longer" to put the pieces together.

And IF our window is about four to five years and it's four to five years of an actualized Jack Campbell pre-draft, then the situation in goal might be dramatically improved. Time being what's it typically been to Toronto and to Jack Campbell, you never know.

But you've got to be able to do (ie reasonably assess) the same thing for the inverse. Maybe time and chance have finally aligned in a positive way for the Leafs.

Nurse goal stunk no two ways about it. The Draisaitl and Barrie goals are more on the defence than anything.

He did make big saves in the third and in OT so that’s encouraging. That he’s still unbeaten is fantastic.

Campbell's weakest game of the year.

But super clutch saves in the 3rd. That game saver on McDavid - that's character!

That's what the Leafs need the most. A goalie that can keep battling and not crack when he starts off poorly during a game and make some nice saves down the stretch to again give his team a chance to win. That's something Andersen hasn't been able to do consistently during his whole time here.

What on earth are you talking about.....lol.

12 games into Campbells Leafs career you are willing to conclude a lot of things. Thats 12 games over two seasons, partly because of he has been injured. Are you sure you are being objective here? :sarcasm:
