Yup and hence why Soup thinks he is worth $6+m. I'd offer him to Sakic or Holland for a boatload and let them roll the dice. After all we have Mrazek who I am told is a #1.
Nobody has ever said mrazek is a clear cut #1. He’s been a 1a in pretty much every season up to this year, but has always played in a shared net situation.

Agreed. He was brought in with the thinking he could step up if Soup stumbled. I see two options:

1. sign Soup and hope this season is not an aberration and sell low on Mrazek (may need to sweeten).

2. sell high on Soup or keep as an own rental and ride Mrazek for the next two years

They probably don't consider trading the pending UFA but I'd be interested to see what a desperate Sakic/Holland might pay for him.

Campbells value is at an all time high and as his numbers fall back to earth a bit, all of these hfboard “cap experts” will see why decisions shouldn’t be reactionary when the sample size of success is so short.

Campbell can go on to win the Vezina and whatever deal he signs will still be risky. Anyone who thinks Dubas was stupid not to give him a long term contract after 80 career games over 6 years when he was already 29 years old is judging with some serious hindsight goggles.

I think what many were advocating for (myself included) was for Dubas to try and extend him this past off season at a low AAV in the range 2.5-3 million, which may or may not have been feasible with Campbell's camp. We'll never know because to my recollection, it was not reported anywhere that Dubas made an offer. It's also worth noting that Campbell's negotiating position was not as strong in the summer as it is now, or will be this off season.

I don’t see how he gets more than Lehner who has a much longer resume and was a Vezina finalist very recently

I'm not saying he would have gotten more, 5x5 is in line with comparables from the same year. Maybe something in the mid-4s as a nice guy discount for an NMC, but I can't see him taking anything starting with a 3 like Mrazek.

I have a hard time thinking they could’ve ever gotten him locked in for 2-3. Realistically it was probably low 4’s prior to the season. Conversely i don’t think he’s ballooned up to the 6-7+ realm like a lot of the rainy day crew will have you believe. He’s probably earned himself an extra $1m annually, but he’s definitely going to get term now. Frankly I’d be okay stretching out the deal, and front loading TF outta it. Last offseason he probably takes the Andersen deal in Carolina (4.5 x 3) now it’s more likely the Lehner deal (5x5). If he’s take the Latter id offer 30m 7 years.

Rumour has it the Leafs threw a number at Soup and they turned it down. Now because the number is up to 6+ all Dubas can do is wait and see how it plays out.
I bet they didn't offer 8 years. That is the way to go 8 years and 4.5 to 5 per year, would have been cheaper last summer. Anyway, waiting is the plan now? Is he hoping Soup bombs the rest of the year? Great! Seems like Kyle is in a no win situation now.

From listening to Kypreos/Bourne it sounds like Soup and his agent not moving off $6+m (what his comparable goalies got) x 4,5,6?? I don't see anything else Dubas can do other than wait or pay. Problem is if Soup plays well in the playoffs, somebody will pay him more than the Leafs can afford. Soup has the boy wonder by the short and curlies.

Come on man… not only is this a tired played out troll comment, but you added nothing to the conversation
I think I added a relevant variable to the conversation. Dubas was voted the GM most agents want to negotiate with.
If you think that’s nothing then I can’t help you

Kypper and Bourne are as credible as mike from Buffalo

Campbell’s stats are about to take a huge dip. Good job Dubas on not listening to the pundits and giving him a bloated contract. I predict he will end around .919 to .922, which is still top 5 in the league but nowhere near what he had about a week ago

Someone already broke down the stats on this, it was literally the opinion of like one or two agents. Utter nonsense. Conversely I’d rather have a GM agents respect and will do biz with than one they avoid like the plague. You don’t get players if their agents hate you.
marner is the only bad deal he’s done, if you look at every other gm of their worst deal is overpaying a 90+ 22yo by a mill or two they’d be laughing.

The cap isn't going up no matter what happens to Jack, every player who is RFA UFA having a break out season will likely not be playing for their current team.

I have always said only Dubas has the 8 year card, get a discount on the AAV and give Soup 8 years. If Soup does well in the playoffs and ends up top 3 goalie this year someone is giving him 7 years and the price may well be 6+ per year.

There’s a relatively painless path to bringing back jack even at 5+. Mrazek Ritchie one of holl or dermott, Mik. Lots of money to shuffle around the fringes & bottom of line up

Dubas still has that card yet. The clock is ticking. I'll leave it to others to guess/decide why Soup has not been signed yet.
