Sheldon was on some leaf program and hinted at the organization preferring to go back to a timeshare in net. I tune into this show sporadically and for weeks they've mentioned the leafs needing a capable backup until Mrazek is healthy. At first i thought Campbell was going through a rough stretch but found this not to be the case. This is what happens when your team also owns the local media haha.

Seems like they'll do anything to lower his value in the summer which is a shame, Jack should have the job going forward.

They just want to limit his workload, he’s never played a full season as a starter.

It would be nice if we can get him signed to a 3-5 year deal in the next little while.

the $$$ are adding up

I'm wondering if Muzzin and Mrazek are thrown overboard on the back end to re-shape that cap structure. Assign more money to Jack and get a cheaper Muzzin replacement whose sort of the happy medium between he and Bogosian. Let the Swedish duo keep improving, while giving them modest raises.

I think goalies by and large are too inconsistent to commit to 8 years. I'd prefer a 5 year deal if the price is right.
but if he gave a discount go for the 8 years and worry about the last 3 later. 8 years at 4.5 or would you rather 5 years at 6?

2yr Stats, minimum 30gms:

1. Campbell 46gms, .931
2. Saros 62gms, .926
3. Vasilevskiy 66gms, .926
4. Varlamov 45gms, .925
5. Nedeljkovic 44gms, .924
6. Fleury 56gms, .922
7. Shesterkin 55gms, .922
8. Sorokin 42gms, .922
9. Smith 37gms, .919
10. Jarry 63gms .918

Jack is on the Mount Rushmore of most likeable maple leafs of all time. I just can’t imagine this team without him at this point. Rarely do you see this much heart and soul from a goalie, but you can hear it in his voice and it shows in his play game in and game out. He just battles every game.

I think the most impressive thing about jack is his ability to bounce back from a rough outing. He almost single handedly keeps losing streaks to a tolerable level. Love this dude

Well Oilers in town and my guess is Mzrak is on da table for trade discussions .. they need a tender badly and we could save some AAV space swopping backups .. we save 1.6M per AAV to help sign Soup and get UFA D vet help at TDL .. seems like a good deal for both sides .. we get a useful vet backup with playoff experience in Smith and Oilers get a guy who can help them get to playoffs

I had thought something like 4.5M x3 years previously would get it done.

Now likely looking at something like 5x5...wouldn't go beyond 5 year term though...

Couple thoughts.
Would want to have Campbell re-signed first, the idea of going into July 1 with Smith-Woll is terrifying.
Would have to be dollar neutral from their standpoint. Easy way to make that up is with Turris, but then we don't get the cap savings. Enter 3rd team. Send either Turris or Smith through Arizona to get 50% retention. Smith would benefit us more (retention for next year), Turris should be dirt cheap. Question would be what does Edmonton add, and what does 3rd party retention cost us

Well you wouldn't get him then. Edmonton would definitely pay more than that, Colorado also in need.

If trading mrazek to Edmonton koskinen would be coming back imo. He’s at least expiring so there’s ok commitment beyond this season. Cap works out too.

Would need a 3rd team involved because we can't take on the extra hit, but yeah Koskinen @ 50% works too.

A.
Turris 50% + Smith + x (valued future) to the Leafs
Mrazek to the Oil
2023 4th round pick and 50% Turris cap hit to Arizona

Koskinen @ 50% + x (valued future) to the Leafs
Mrazek to the Oil
??? to and 50% Kosk's cap hit to Arizona.

I do wonder about the added cost of the Kosk retention vs. Turris. I think it would really add to the price Edmonton is paying in the deal, because it would seriously eat away at our return from Mrazek

For sure Soup needs to be resigned 1st .. all other issues all must mean we have 1.6M AAV at TDL this year to pick up a vet 4th D for playoff run .. if we run out Holl/Sandin it will be another HUGE mistake

I used to say that Anderson was our best goalie since Belfour, I've seen enough now to say Campbell is our best since Belfour. It still is remarkable how he always seems square to the puck, he's always putting the most body in front of a puck, consistently and effectively. He's now shown it long enough that I feel confident this isn't a "hot streak", there are plenty of goalies who put together for a spell, this doesn't feel like that.

meh colorado wouldn’t pay 5.9 for their own vezina finalist goalie.

if he wants to go to Edmonton. Let him.
