They did pretty much everything better when Keefe took over because most of the team had tuned out Babcock. He should have been canned in the off-season.Keefe did instantly better defensively with the exact same roster as Babcock.
Couple stellar saves in the last minute tonight. Wasn't worried one bit with this guy in net.
Leafs are 22nd in goals for.
Campbell is carrying this team.
The leafs right now have over a 75% probability of making the playoffs. I don't think they need to worry about that. They just need to learn how to bottle their stifling defensive successes and how not to crack when a player penetrates their defensive system for a short period of time.None of this matters until after XMAS .. pro hockey is more like pond hockey pre XMAS .. then post XMAS time and space on ice is reduced and all teams start playing harder on da puck and man.. like I said earlier this style of puck possession game works well in this type of hockey and I expected Leafs to do well early in season .. but things will change .. da big question is gonna be how far up can Leafs get in division in points now .. then will it be enough to hold on to a playoff spot after XMAS .. it is gonna be close

In all honesty, goaltending is witchcraft to me. I just know what I have observed and what I believe is not rooted in in any discernable data that I am aware of.
That said...
Being a primarily puck tracking goalie increased the probability of success. Being primarily an athletic goalie, reduces it but I think the distribution of success has a longer tail. Hasek comes to mind as the epitome of this kind of goalie. IMO, he was the best goalie I ever saw when he started his rather late run. Sparks was the other side of this distribution.
I'm not saying that Soup is bad at tracking pucks and positioning but I believe he is inferior to Anderson. Where he kills Anderson is his reaction and athleticism. This excites me because his skill set looks like he could be a great one. If he is, this team will win a cup. He may be the most important person on the roster. Without him, things look pretty dim. With him, the team believes they can win...and so do I.
Riemer was athletic. He needed puck tracking training.I'm surprised that for that reason our goaltending coach has not killed his performance. Leafs goalie philosophy, which is not unique, is be big, block shots. I think the last "athletic" goalie was Bernier?
Freddy Andersen 10-2-0, 1.70 GAA, with a .941 save%
Its quite interesting that the goalie Jack Campbell is replacing former starter Freddy Andersen has almost identical stats this year.
Andersen in making $4.5 mil this year, so is that a realistic expectation for Campbell's next deal as starter money ?
I'm waiting for December Freddie. Campbell will pass him then.Freddy Andersen 10-2-0, 1.70 GAA, with a .941 save%

None of stats or any game results matter at all period in any respective until hockey starts getting played for keeps after XMAS .. all that matters now is leafs getting as many points possible now before da game changes .. once game tightens up this core will do da same things it has always doneThe leafs right now have over a 75% probability of making the playoffs.
