Slightly OT, but since McCabe is replacing Jovo on the team now, does that mean Canada gets to choose a replacement dman for the taxi squad?

You would think so. I wonder why they haven't named a replacement for that yet.

Yes they already did...Boyle got the spot on the taxi squad.

Can someone tell me what Bouwmeester has done, other than being drafted quite high?

Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf

And I am NOT a Phaneuf fan.... I am a fan of Team Canada.

Phanuef >>>>>>>>Bouwmeester

I can't think of one aspect of the game that Bouwmeester is superior to Phanuef:dunno:
Skating, first pass out of the defensive zone and he has had international experience at this level.

Hockey Canada has become a joke...

Are you f'ing kidding me? J-Bo has been AWESOME for Canada internationally every time he's been called upon, you're crazy....Phaneuf has only played against juniour INT'L competition.....J-Bo has seen the World Cup, the World Championships AND the jrs.....this was the right choice.

Phanuef, Boyle without thinking twice. There are probably others who are better choices as well.
Phaneuf is a different type of defenceman than Bouwmeester. Bouwmeester takes Niedermeyer's place and Bouwmeester is similar to Niedermeyer. If Regehr went down they would probably have picked Phaneuf. Boyle you could make a case for however, Bouwmeester has had experience playing at the World Cup and the World Championships and he has played extremely well for Canada.

Bouwmeester has the experience, that's why.

I'd be alright iwth Phaneuf, but I can't argue too much with Bouwmeister. Or however you spell that.

I though it would be Hannan or Phaneuf but considering Jay Bo's success at Int level in the pass I'm not really shocked or mad.

If you ask me, Phaneuf is not only better then all of those potential candidates, but he's better then some of the players on the team. I personally think Phaneuf is better then not only Bouweester/McCabe and the on-call players, but Regehr, Jovo and Foote as well.

But... experiance is key. I can understand that its a short tournament, so they want guy's that have been together, so Bouwmeester makes sense. Although under that circumstance, I would have thought Boyle would get the call... that and Boyle plays on a winning team and Bouwmeester on a losing team, and a winning attitude would be huge.

Boyle got robbed. If they were going to replace an offensive d-man, one would think they would have chosen the offensive d-man with the best numbers.

Phanuef is producing as well as Boyle and much better than Bouwmeester.

Skating yes. IMO first pass, no.

IMO Phanuef is more of a logical replacement for Jovanovski and McCabe or Boyle for Neidermayer.

Bouwmeester played exceptional in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. It's a shame that people cannot remember that far back. I don't care what team you cheer for, if you put Bouwmeester on an international stage, he is a complete player. Complain all you want about how Phaneuf should be there, he'll have his chance. Once again, Bouwmeester will prove to Canada just what he can do. After all, you don't get much press playing in Florida.

the only reason I wouldn't pick Phaneuf is because he plays his best when he's leading the team in minutes and he wouldn't be doing that. Still, just seeing limited time, he's the type of impact player who can make an hit, rush, or PP goal that changes the tempo of the game.

Unlike McCabe, he plays defense, unlike Hannan, he plays offense, unlike Boyle, he is an impact player, and Phaneuf is just plain better than J-Bo. The only thing J-Bo has on Phaneuf is international experience and the only way Phaneuf gets that is to actually play at a high international level.

If you're worried that Phaneuf will roll over and die and be a liability at such a high level, then you've simply never seen the guy play. Some of his best games are in huge NW div. games where he plays 20+ minutes. Thrives on competition and never backs down.

Stupid mistake by Canada.

Agreed... If either of the two should be replacing Niedermeyer's role... it should be Boyle...
