Phanuef >>>>>>>>Bouwmeester

I can't think of one aspect of the game that Bouwmeester is superior to Phanuef:dunno:

Skating?

People just look at numbers.. If you actually had seen a Panthers game this season you'd know how great J-bo has been.

Bouwmeester is the perfect choice for the situation.

He's already proved that he can play at the highest level and succeeded at the World Cup where he was arguably 2nd or 3rd best defenseman for Canada. He's also been named defenseman of the tournament at World Championships at age 19.

As good as Phaneuf is, he really hasn't proved anything at this level of play esp. on Olympic size ice. He's was on the silver medal team in Helsinki but then gold medal was in North Dakota...and let's not forget, they were both at the Junior level.

Although J-Bo hasn't made as much noise as Dion Phaneuf playing in Florida, he's the real deal and has been playing some of his best hockey to date in the last couple of months.

Jay Bouwmeester is an EXCELLENT choice!!!

Team Canada is always going to go for experience as long as you've got Wayne and Pat Quinn running the show... so this hardly comes as a shock. Crosby would've been picked if it wasn't for experience.

Maybe I would've swapped Boyle and Bo, but I'm fine with the choice.

Phaneuf even sans the experience can still pass well, skate well and has a great low drive. What he also brings is some sandpaper. Foote brings that but that is about all he is bringing right now.Blake is up and down.Bottom line is we are not as good on defense today as we were yesterday. I hope Boumeester does well if he gets his chance.

In that case, McCabe makes no sense.

I dunno. He won two world junior championships, including one where he was named top defenceman in the tournament, and a world championship. It's not like he's a novice internationally.

The ignorance in this thread amazes me. Bouwmeester has been unbelievable all year long for the Panthers, but most look at the scoresheet and scoff. He's been one of the best defensive defensmen I've seen this year, and trust me, I know all about guys like Regehr, Ohlund, Hannan, Norstrom etc. He has been producing offensively as well, I believe he has 11 points in his last 10 games...and on pace for over 40 pts over a full season. He skates better than just about anyone, has size, great passer and he does all this with no supporting cast on Florida. He has been paired with Sean Hill all season and Hill has been one of the worst defensmen I've seen in a Panthers uni -- and we've had some gems go through here (Biron, Wilson, Pitlick, Eriksson, etc.)

Phaneuf is the only guy one can make a legitimate argument for. You already have a liability in McCabe, so anyone who would take Dan Boyle would be in for some nice cardiac problems. The fact that some here would prefer Kyle McLaren over Bouwmeester is hysterical. As some mentioned above, Bouwmeester is a similar player to Niedermayer and has the experience needed...

....there will be a big plate of crow going around HF in a couple weeks. Great choice.

Haven't seen him since you traded him, eh?

Can someone tell me what Bouwmeester has done, other than being drafted quite high?

Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf
Dion Phaneuf

And I am NOT a Phaneuf fan.... I am a fan of Team Canada.
Bouwmeester has experience at the international stage, even was named best defensemen two or three years ago. He was also quite good at the World Cup. When among the best in the world, he's one of the best in the world.

I agree, Bouwmeester hasn't been mention on the canadian networks at all this season so some people just think he's doing nothing at all, the media here in Canada can''t talk enough about Phaneuf even if it's deserved, it gets out of hand sometimes and players like Bouwmeester suffers from it, from watching them this season, J-Bo is a better passer then Phaneuf (although a good passer so don't say I said he sucks), that only helps Bouwmeester's selection.

Two or three years ago means squat now

Actually, I've seen him plenty -- and while he's obviously improved from his time here, that really isn't saying much (defensively speaking). He's a high-risk player, he's tiny and average at best positionally...not exactly a defensive stalwart if you ask me. He's better offensively than Jay, but I don't think that alone is what Canada was after.

Really? Then what is Luongo doing on the squad? He certainly hasn't earned it this season.

Weren't you the one saying you would prefer McLaren over Bouwmeester? :biglaugh:

Boyle got robbed. If they were going to replace an offensive d-man, one would think they would have chosen the offensive d-man with the best numbers.
Bleh I never thought i'd agree with a Lightning fan, but it should have been Boyle (or Hannan, Stuart or even Phaneuf). J-Bust can thank Martin for the spot.

what a joke

How is this a joke? Sure i also think Phaneuf deserves to be there, but IMO Bouwmeester will do just as good a job as Dion would have. The guy has been very good for Florida this year, great defensively and steady on the offense. He is a good passer, amazing skater and has been pretty physical this year. Just because Bouwmeester hasnt lived up to the hype he got, he seems to get bashed alot. He wont live up to the hype, but he will be a top 5 dman in the league one day.

All you flames fans are getting out of hand. Phaneuf may deserve to go, but i think you know nothing about Bouwmeester if you think McLaren is better. All bitter.

I don't mind Bouwmeester on the team.

Phaneuf can definitely play but it's McCabe who he should be replacing. Phaneuf's shot is just as much as weapon and he's much more reliable defensively.

I think almost everyone will agree on that
