What's he won? How about two world championships and a World Cup and he's what, 22?

What does what teams he's been on have anything to do with what a player he is?

for a second, you made me forget its 2006
Bertuzzi's only 30. When he's on, there isn't a forward like him in the league. If he's motivated, and playing a robust physical game, using his speed and his strength, he'll be one of the most important players in the tournament, regardless of his production.

Oh, no, you're taking me the wrong way. I like Bertuzzi and think he should be on the team.

I'm just sick of this "experience" and "so and so was good back in..." talk

Bouwmeester gets the nod over Boyle because of the experience.
If you want a guy who's played on the big ice, Boyle played in Sweden all last year. He was a big part of a Cup winning team. He's also older. If you're talking experience, the ONLY place Bouwmeester might have the edge is international tourneys, but that's about it.

But hey, Danny's on the taxi squad now, so hope he enjoys his free Italian vacation. ;)

They went with the painfully obvious pick and the right one.

Anyone that watched Canada win back-to-back world championship victories knows that it was becausee of Bouwmeester and Brewer, if Brewer wasn't injured he would have got the call, but he is, so J-bo is up, great choice in my mind.

yes, and if things go badly for team ca, he can help by shortening the roster of their opponent... :sarcasm:

I don't know, but I would have added Boyle, Phaneuf, or Stuart ahead of Bouwmeester (in that order).

If Brewer got the call, then I'd shoot myself.

So we'd get a great defenseman and you wouldn't be able to make stupid posts anymore?

Where do we sign him up?

how much offense does this team really need from the defense? i would want more stay-at-home defensive minded guys (hannan types) to help keep more pucks outta your own net. let those all those fab forwards do their jobs and get the goals... have a couple o-d-men for pp maybe, but they'd better be solid on their d.

Jay Bouwmeester is playing 28 minutes a game for the Panthers, now, and doing it exceptionally well. It's amazing what playing in a backwater market will do for your reputation. He has been spectacular for Team Canada whenever he has been picked.

Anyone arguing +/- doesn't deserve to live. Florida is an awful team.

Phaneuf does that too

Eric Brewer is the furthest thing possible away from "great"

Phaneuf does everything. Phaneuf is the perfect defenceman.
I gave Bouwmeester the credit that he was a far better skater, and the experiance, but other then that, yes! Phaneuf really is a solid, all around player. No glaring weakness's, much like Scott Stevens.

I'v always been a big Bouwmeester fan, so I can't say I'm not happy about it, but I do think Phaneuf deserved to go, he's been unreal.. But he WILL get his chance.

My biggest problem isnt' actually Bouwmeester (although I'd perfer Boyle), but Phaneuf should be there instead of McCabe.

Neidermayer, great skater.
J-Bo, great skater.

That is your answer right there.

As much as I respect Phaneuf after watching him against my team, he lacks experience, and wouldn't fill the roll that Neidermayer was going to play.

I'm not crazy about the decision, but after Canada brought home gold last time, I have trouble questioning the decision when the Olympics hasn't even started yet.

Phaneuf should have been named to the team. Period.

Not the taxi-squad, not a call up to the taxi-squad. He should have been a top 4 defenceman for Canada.

Instead this useless "experience" gimmick is glorified for no substantial reason...

Anyone why Canada is the only team to believe this crap?

Czech took home the gold last international tournament.

Heck, Ukraine almost beat Canada last tournament...

The team needed a shakeup and instead its just regressed

I assume you meant to put a "know" in there, but maybe they believe it because is tried and proven over and over again. :dunno:

Phaneuf shouldn't be on this team, he's a good young defenseman, and he'll get more opportunities to go, but he's not ready yet. Sutter himself said that in a short tournament like this experience important.

Top 4 defenseman? :biglaugh:

Yes, we admit that the Czechs won the last World Championships, they managed to beat a team Canada that hadn't played all year long, and didn't have many great Canadian players, the fact that you think that the Olympic Team Canada regressed just proves how much of a joke you really are. :)
