Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

Goals are worth more than assists and even strength goals specifically are the most valuable kind of point.
Mickov has more goals and point in the nhl than Caufield at the same age. Anyway my point was: it’s not because we have a Caufield that we passed on a talent like Michkov.

From April 8th 2025 to April 15th 2025. It's been one week. Since Ivan Demidov has signed to the Montreal Canadiens.

It's seem like it's been only one day since Ivan Demidov has signed to the Montreal Canadiens....

Not trying to be a homer but to me it doesn’t look like he quit on the play, it looks like he saw he had 2 back checkers in front of him and wanted to cover a potential trailer
Listen to Bob Hartley, who coached in the KHL; he repeated today that backchecking isn’t part of the DNA of most players there. It needs to be thaught. He said Rotenberg told him that we worked on that aspect with Demidov this season.

They passed on Michkov to draft Reinbacher.

And if not for Reinbacher, word is they also liked Will Smith (drafted 4th) and Ryan Leonard (I think he was drafted 8th).

Putting aside that I disagree with Slaf being a Power Forward...

If Demidov had the rookie season similar to what Bedard or Celebrini had I'd be enthusiastic with any reservation. Both Bedard and Celebrini showed promise of great things to come. Hopefully Demidov follows in kind. His scoring race against Michkov will be a hoot.

Caufield is good, but he's not been great like we know he can be. For one, he should shoot the puck a lot more -- he has a lot fewer SoG this season than last (and his TOI went down by a full minute). Secondly, his puck management seems like it should improve, because he's otherwise a clever and economical player.
Connor Bedard did not impress me one bit yesterday. He was doing circles and cicles just to see his shot getting blocked or doing a weak pass that did not generate anything. At this point, Bedard is an undersized one dimensional winger disguised as a center. He is closer to a pp specialist than a franchise player just with the eye test. His skating is barely average and his defensive coverage is abysmal.

Right now, I would say that Frank Nazar is more impressive than Bedard. Demidov is also already better than Bedard and it's not really close imo.

RIP the Russia factor.

It was claimed that Hughes wouldn't draft a Russian, and that a Russian wouldn't be allowed to come here because they'd be drafted to the front lines.
Respect for the Habs draft scouts and the Habs hockey ops. To not let the politics control them. They were only focused on hockey.

Russian hockey players are like Brazilian hockey players. They're entertainers. They're professionals. And they're passionate about their sport.

Russia and Montreal is a love story and a perfect matCH.

I'm well aware of that bud, have u not read the last couple pages? We been debating on that for a while. The Caufield thing was me responding to someone saying we shouldn't have drafted Michkov because we had Caufield, Suzuki, Slaf and now Demidov. In my mind you always go for the best talent and I'm not sold on Reinbacher being that first righty defenseman. For me, he's gonna be a good 4. And like I said, I really hope I'm wrong, would not be the first time.

An adjusted view on Bedard is he might be more productive than McDavid and Kucherov in the AHL because of his shots off the rush. He would be stuffed much less by NHL-style Ds and could get his shot off all the time. But McDavid and Kucherov’s style makes it such that they might not score as much in the AHL but their production is seamless in the NHL unlike Bedard

I've been watching for a long time and I don't get too gaga over players but last night I was screaming at the tv for every player to give the puck to Demidov, just like the fans in that clip from last night.
A-mazing talent...............the kid oozes offence. He can easily be taught good coverage and D. He was a good player in the KHL in both ends of the ice.....
We have been so talent starved for 30 plus years now, it was refreshing to see a kid hit the ice, and steal the show. That said, there may be a few guys on the team, who are gonna struggle with Huston and Demidov and the early on accomplishments.

Isn't that exactly what Bobrov said, why we passed on Michkov.?
His first explanation was something about buckets. His second explanation was about Stanley Cup championship teams these recent years had a certain size and were not big and would dip under that threshold with Michkov.

We are still pretty soft upfront.

Can you find me that quote? Second, it's not because he said that, that it's not a mistake (in my honest opinion).
I read that quote on here.............not sure where to find it.
It's ok to agree to disagree with Bobrov or HuGo.......no big deal at all.

I also read he wanted to play in Philly and told teams this, so...........could all be speculation.

Sorry about the Michkov talk in the Demidov thread boys.............the board goes down a rabbit hole at times.......lol
