Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL): Part II

Nothing will happen guys calm down. He will be healthy scratch for the end of the season and post season so what? We already saw that he will be a game breaker, more time for him to train and he will signe June 1st and be on the top 6 next year. Enough with the evil Russia, they won't do something to their best player in the country come on. Heard so much bad stuff it's incredible. His coach is st*pid as* yeah sure we all knew that, can we wait 2 months ? Yes. Will it impact his confidence and hurt his game ? Absolutely not

IMO it's good he gets scratched, I don't want to risk him getting hurt before he escapes that mess. Nothing left to prove at that level.

Gotta talk about something since Demidov isn't playing anymore...
If they’re bound for the playoffs it could be that Rotenberg just doesn’t see the point of giving him minutes. He’s also a fitness freak and thinks players burn out and he’s repeated this many times — Demidov being a youngster, it might be equal part roster management and hyper-conservatism. I don’t give RR any credit here, I’m just thinking out loud.

I’m sure Demidov will feature in the playoffs. And if he doesn’t, who cares? He’s coming over within months — Kent Hughes said so.

Overall Demidov had an important and impressive D+1 season, we should be relieved and excited that his star has only gotten brighter.

Rotenberg believes the playoffs are a very physical time for KHL players. He is just protecting Demidov's health for the Habs?
It's hilarious - like, if he plays Demidov and he gets injured, what's the impact for SKA vs being healthy scratched?
Either way, he's not playing! And he's not coming back next year (maybe ever).

What does the coach gain from Demidov being (say) 5% stronger because he sent him to the gym, in 2 months when his SKA career is wrapped up?

The only plausible explanation is that they need Demidov to be healthy if they want to squeeze money from MTL to play him this year, TDL style.

Who knows... With that type of person, riding nepotism to a position of authority far beyond his competency level, it could be any number of petty egotistical drivers at play...

Quite probably, he thinks he's sending a message to future NHL draft picks/talented prospects that SKA controls... "If even one of the best ever KHL 20 year old can get this treatment from us, imagine what we'll do to you if you don't bend to our wishes"...

How do kids get contracted to KHL teams in the first place? Because if the kids have any choice in the matter this could drive away talent who would otherwise sign with them.

Not sure... But given SKA's budget, political connections and Russian hockey prestige, I suspect they view themselves as immune to that kind of push back (probably rightfully so... It's not at all uncommon in pro sports in eastern Europe for teams to absolutely screw over even top athletes and simply offer enough $$ for the next batch to ignore what happened to the last ones).

Pretty sure Demidov will play in the playoffs
He's a big part of the teams success, and ska will not hurt their chances at a cup just to punish Demidov for not signing.

Actually, most young talent is staying away from SKA these days (2007 born and onwards).
In fact the 2009 national junior team has 0 players from SKA's system on the roster.

Despite SKA's money and resources, kids appear to be taking notice of Rotenbergs treatment of young talent at KHL level and are reacting accordingly.

How is it?

I tried reading Freedom Evolves when I was younger, but I was not successful.

I'm reading From Bacteria to Bach, which is Dennett's take on evolution. While there isn't much new to me in the first half of the book, I was pleasantly surprised he fully accepts David Sloan Wilson's neogroup selection. I know Dennett likes to dish it out vs Sapolsky over the free will debate, and Sapolsky is DSW's buddy, so I shouldn't have been surprised.

If you want a book that's gonna rock your world and easy to read, I'd suggest reading science power couple Brian Hare and Vanessa Woods's Survival of the Friendliest. The human self-domestication hypothesis is becoming widely accepted, especially in ethology, anthropology, evo-devo and evolutionary bio, and their work is right at the center of the advances in the theory.

Haven't read Freedom Evolves

Extremely short-sighted, which makes sense since they are owned by a petroleum company.

Imagine an NHL team knowing one of their pending UFA's (leading scorer) had no intention of re signing and you decided to bench him for the playoffs...logic makes no sense and I am sure his teammates aren't happy with that decision.

At least in the NHL scenario you could see some sort of plan behind the pettiness. If management was pissed at a guy then maybe they bench them out of pure pettiness to prevent them from showcasing themselves in the playoffs so they'll get a lesser payday in the summer. But in this situation, Demidov ends up over here signed to an ELC either way, so all they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot lol.
