Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL): Part II

The rules allowed for Michkov to buy out his contract and the simplest answer is that Michkov was loaned the money to buy out his contract because it's is/was a pretty safe bet for anyone to make because you'll quite easily get your money+interest back on the ELC alone.

I can see Laine getting prime set-ups from Demidov after a prolonged exchange between Hutson and Demidov and the opposing D concentrated on those two.

And the Flyers could have given the agent a guarantee that they would cover the loan if Michkov didn't repay it.

I'm pretty sure that would be against the rules and a form of cap circumvention.

Any loan has risk and for a lender who knows hockey like an agent, the risk with Michkov was pretty darn low. Can't really go lower save guys like Crosby/Ovechkin/McDavid.

Because there will never be evidence just like no one knows where Michkov got the money from. It is obvious to anyone with a brain that the Flyers knew he wasn't going to stay 3 years when they took him.
Now who would have the money to buy a 2 year contract if Michkov's family didn't. And there would never be an investigation of anything the Flyers did. The Habs might be investigated but why would the NHL give a shat about 6 weeks of a contract.

How would you know there wouldn't be an investigation of any of that? Everyone is about as far removed from the situation as possible with hardly any idea how any of that works, why even pretend otherwise?

You'd have to have some financial paperwork and vetting process to justify even the lowest of contractual standards with fulfillment payments. 'Trust me bro' isn't gonna cut it. That only works on the internet, and barely even then.

I think it's going to be between Laine, Caufield or Slaf.
Caufield is our sniper and Slaf is the only power forward in the power play. Honestly, I'm not so sure Kent will resign Laine. It will probably be Laine and Caufield will go back to being our pp sniper. Both Slaf and Caufield are core player for us.

They just pay of SKA and SKA can just say they let him go early since their season is over. No one needs to know why?

I doubt it's about money. SKA has as much money as a sport team can have. Rotenberg is a billionaire (or a son of a billionaire), million dollars are pocket money for him.

Sometimes it's pity Demidov isn't such an asshole as Ryabkin (or Ryabkin's team). Ryabkin forced Dinamo to let him go, but I doubt Ivan will do anything like this. I'm pretty sure he'll agree to play in the MHL, if they send him there.

I'm curious to see who comes off the 1st PP unit for him to fit in
Really, the position on the PP he is most suited for is Suzuki's.

Caufield and Laine are both elite snipers. Slaf is the big body net presence.

He won't be bumping Suzuki. Next year, barring a major shitting of the bed by the current #1 PP unit - Demi will remain on the 2nd unit.

Not being on PP1 will hurt his Calder chances, but I still think he enters the season as the favourite.

For the rich, it's always about money. They never have enough

Slaf will come off for Demidov. He's a weak leak on the PP right now. He doesn't screen enough. He never shoots. He doesn't take the puck off the goal line and to the crease.

You can't take Laine Caufield or Suzuki off nor Hutson. But Demidov should absolutely be cooking off of Hutson.

And did Michkov get let go because he is an asshole? If they send Demidov to the MHL there would be no recourse if they are in the playoffs until mid April. He won't refuse to play.

There was no investigation of the Michkov situation because they won't do anything to a big market US team, (see Chicago situatiion where the team itself paid NO penalty). They might go after a Canadian team - they are always happy to screw Ottawa.

He should.

He's a top 10 player in the entire KHL. Getting sent to the MHL after being benched as their leading scorer is such a stupid f***ing power move by Rotenberg

sooo can we buy-out Demidov's KHL contract and bring him to the NHL or not?

And, if we can, what is the likely hood of it happening?

This is 100% true that Slaf is the weak link on the PP. He only has 8 PP points; however, who is going to take his place in that spot? He doesn't screen enough, but the other players aren't built to take that kind of punishment. I am interested in your thoughts.

It came from the Flyers. Briere doesn't give a shit about rules. Maybe when the Hab s visited him they gave him a bag of cash. :D

Or his agent could advance him the money,
It came from back channels used by Comcast (owner of Flyers)

Bottom line - needs to excited by 3rd party and has been successfully done many times .. it’s an open secret. Minny did it a couple of yrs back to sneak Kaprizov out of Russia as they were drafting for army to support Ukraine war

You don't need a power forward on the PP. Slaf has 8 PPP. He's the first to get replaced by Demi, unless Laine goes away.

for me right now the choice is clear, it's Slaf.

Slaf seems to be the weak link that teams leave open, and he only manufactures so much offense when he gets the puck down low. All of Suzuki, Caufield, Laine, and Hutson manufacture more offense. If Demidov is the real deal, it would be sick to have him also manufacturing offense on that 5 man unit.

Having said all that, Laine needs to work on his tunrovers.
